Gwilym Lee was born in Bristol, England on November 24, 1983, so his zodiac sign is Sagittarius and he is a British national. He’s an actor, best known for playing one of the main characters, Brian May in the biographical musical film “Bohemian Rhapsody” in 2018, which also starred Rami Malek and Lucy Boynton, and which is about the life of Freddie Mercury, the late British singer, songwriter and member of the band Queen. The film won 44 awards, including four Oscars, and was nominated for 76 others.
Youth and education
Gwilym grew up in Bristol alongside his older brothers Geraint and Owen and older sister Rhiannon, through their father who was a lawyer, and their mother who worked as a secretary in a local insurance company.
Gwilym became interested in acting when he entered secondary school, where he was a member of the school’s drama club and appeared in most of the school plays, and a few at a local theatre. He was also physically active as he was playing football with his peers. After taking his matriculation exam in 2001, he enrolled at Cardiff University, graduating in 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and Drama. Gwilym made his TV series debut in 1997 where he played James Hunter in 13 episodes of the children’s book series “Animal Ark”, but his next role wasn’t until 11 years later in the British comedy drama series “Mutual Friends”, in which he played Marc Warren, Keeley Hawes and Alexander Armstrong.
The story is about two friends who meet after their mutual friend commits suicide; the series was nominated for three awards.
In 2009, Gwilym guest starred in single episodes of three series: British detective drama “Lewis”, British drama “Waterloo Road” and British fantasy crime drama police procedural series “Ashes to Ashes”. In 2010, he starred in the episode “Idle Hands” of the British medical soap opera “Doctors” as Anatole Karpski, and then played the recurring character Reverend Henry Jameson in the British historical drama series “Land Girls”, starring Becci Gemmell and Susan Cookson and is about four women serving in the Women’s Land Army during World War II.

In 2012, he played the supporting character Giles in the British comedy drama series “Fresh Meat”, as well as Alexx Scholfield in the British medical drama series “Monroe”. He next played the supporting role as Sean Gilmartin in the movie “Restless” which was closely based on the novel of the same name written by William Boyd. The film follows a woman searching for her mother who ran away during World War II after working for the British Secret Service for several years. The film was a success, winning one award and being nominated for eight others, including two Primetime Emmys. From 2013 to 2016, Gwilym starred as DS Charlie Nelson in the British detective drama series “Midsomer Murders”, which is still running and currently stars Neil Dudgeon, Fiona Dolman and Nick Holman.
It follows two detectives investigating murders in Midsomer County. and since the series first aired in 1997, it has been nominated for seven awards, winning one.
Some of Gwilym’s last roles in TV series were in the documentary series “The Royal House of Windsor” in 2017 in which he was the narrator, the British drama series “Jamestown” in which he played Samuel Castell in eight episodes in 2017, and the comedy series “ The Great” in which he plays Grigory Orlov and which will premiere on May 15, 2020.

Gwilym made his screen debut in 2008 playing a supporting character in the short drama film “The Escort”, starring Carolyn Allen and Taylor Bowden and directed and written by Claire Holman.

In 2011, he played Senior Technician Mountain in the critically acclaimed romantic thriller film “The Tourist” which starred Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp and which follows Frank with whom Elise falls in love after coming to Italy from America. The film was nominated for three Golden Globe Awards.
In 2011, Gwilym appeared as DC Block in the action-crime thriller film “Isle of Dogs” which received rather bad reviews as it is rated 3.5/10 on the movie and TV series website IMDb.com. In 2012, he played the supporting character Williams in the fourth movie of the tetralogy of movies titled “The Hollow Crown” before appearing in the 2015 drama film “A Song for Jenny” starring Emily Watson and Ryan Coath.

Gwilym has kept the details of his love life hidden from the media’s attention, and many people believe that the popular actor is gay due to the fact that he has not spoken about any women he may have dated. However, it is rumored that Gwilym started dating Leila Crerar, an actress from Wales, after they met while filming for the movie “Bohemian Rhapsody” in 2017. Gwilym and Leila were lovers in the movie and apparently made their love scenes look too realistic, leading their fans to think they were together in real life were life. According to some of these rumors, they have been together for almost three years now.
Born in Powys Mid-Wales, Leila fell in love with acting at the age of nine while watching films with her parents.
She attended the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, graduating in the late 1990s with a Bachelor of Arts degree in theatre. Gwilym is a philanthropist who has donated money to many charitable organizations such as Blood Cancer UK and AMMF, the UK’s only cholangiocarcinoma charity. He is a huge animal lover and has donated money to various animal shelters in the UK – he has a dog and a cat.
