The Wealth of Matt Cohen
As of early 2020, Matt Cohen’s net worth is estimated to be over $2 million earned through a successful acting career. He has appeared in movies and TV shows since 2005 and worked on several online programs and web series, as well as some directing work.
Early life and education
Matt grew up in Miami in a Jewish family and at a young age dreamed of becoming an athletic star. During his childhood he played various sports such as American Football, played for his school’s team during high school and also ran track races. He attended American Heritage School and then enrolled at Florida State University in Tallahassee.
Cohen studied business administration, but also became interested in motocross. He loved racing cars, but it was more of a hobby.
In the end, he decided that he wanted to be an actor, although he still completed his studies. After graduation, he moved to Los Angeles and began attending auditions.
In 2005 he got his first major role as one of the main characters of the television series “South of nowhere”; the show follows the life of a family and the relationships between its younger members and their friends, tackling sexuality issues that caused some controversy at the time. At this point, he became close friends with co-stars Danso Gordon and Marisa Lauren, playing characters much younger despite all being in their twenties.
While working on the show, he had several other opportunities, including his first movie project called “Boogeyman 2”, though it failed to receive a theatrical release and went straight to video instead. He also had some guest starring roles on shows like “The OC” and “Medium”.
He had gained a significant following from his work in “South of Nowhere”, and continued to build his reputation in 2008 when he was cast in “Supernatural”, playing a younger version of John Winchester, who is mainly played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan .
He then worked on the horror film “Dark House”, marking a series of horror projects – the film starred him alongside Meghan Ory and is set in an old house that was once a foster home for children where gruesome murders took place. He also appeared in the horror movie “Chain Letter” which, as the name implies, tells the story of a chain letter that kills people if not passed on.
Ongoing acting projects
In the following years, Matt committed to working consistently in television, taking on guest roles on “NCIS: Los Angeles” and “Nite Tales: The Series”.
He also appeared in several independent films, including “Sunnyview” and “Tai Chi & Qi Gong Basics”. In 2011, he landed a recurring role on the fourth season of “90210”, which was his first longer-term role since ending his run with “South of Nowhere”. He was working on another teen series based on the “Beverly Hills, 90210” franchise, telling the story of wealthy students living in California’s luxurious Beverly Hills community.
Two years later, he appeared in the psychological thriller “Windsor Drive”, Natalie Bible’s directorial debut.
The film follows the character of Tommy O’Reilly, an actor haunted by his past, with Matt playing a fictionalized version of himself. He then guest-starred on “Criminal Minds,” “Melissa & Joey,” and “The Client List.” He got another one in 2015 recurring rolecast on the second season of “How to Get Away with Murder”, as Levi Sutter.
General hospital and recent projects
In 2016, Cohen landed another major role when he was cast as Griffin Munro on the long-running medical soap opera “General Hospital”, actually the second longest running soap opera in the US after “Guiding Light”.
It was originally set in a general hospital and followed the story of people who found their lives intertwined with the location. Later on, the show expanded to include a stable set of characters, mostly families that were related to each other. His character Griffin is a former colleague of Lucas Jones played by Ryan Carnes. He stayed with the show for three years, when his character was written out of the show when he left town to find a quieter life.
Meanwhile, Matt had a recurring role in “Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders”, a spin-off of “Criminal Minds” and the third in the franchise.
The show ran for two seasons, but was eventually canceled due to low ratings. In late 2019, it was reported that Matt would become a full-time presenter and correspondent for the hit weekend show “Entertainment tonight”, which follows various Hollywood news and stories from television projects to new movies. They also show interviews and trailers.
Matt befriended and later began a relationship with actress Mandy Musgrave, whom he met on the set of “South of Nowhere”, and the two married in 2011. Subsequently, she became part of the web show “Giltrash!” as Misty Monroe, and also reprized her role in the movie “Girltrash: All Night Long”. Like her husband, she has appeared as a guest on numerous programs. They have a child together and there are no negative rumors about their relationship.
