Jae Head is an American actor, who rose to prominence for his portrayal of Sean Junior – or SJ – in the John Lee Hancock film “The Blind Side”, released in 2009.

Early life and family

Jae Head was born under the sign of Capricorn on December 27, 1996 in Hamlin, Texas, USA, to parents Jo Head, a teacher, and Jeffrey Head, a football and basketball coach. He and his brother Jansen Head grew up in Hamlin, but moved to the Hill Country town of Goldthwaite, Texas in 2006.

His parents considered him a living, breathing miracle, having survived open heart surgery at a very young age. He was born missing an aortaneeded to distribute oxygenated blood to the rest of his body.

The doctors told his parents that baby Jae had a 25% chance of living after birth. Apparently pregnant Mrs. Head was diagnosed with a life-threatening condition called HELLP syndrome a month before giving birth. It caused her to suffer from blurred vision and high blood pressure. She was rushed to a larger hospital in Abilene because it was a complicated delivery. Baby Jae was having trouble drinking milk and the doctors recommended taking him to a hospital in Dallas for further testing. Only then did they all discover that he had no aorta, so he underwent several open-heart surgeries – modern technology allowed doctors to construct his aorta by combining tissues from cadavers with his own pulmonary vein.

His parents wouldn’t talk about Jae’s life expectancy because they don’t want to count the days or are afraid of a deadline, but they counted on new heart procedures in the future that would help extend Jae’s life. Fortunately, everything seems to be fine with Jae since his last surgery.

This young second-grade survivor often came home frustrated because he couldn’t keep up with his classmates and couldn’t do the things the other kids were doing. However, there was one thing he loved to do, and that was putting on superhero costumes. He played as these characters, and his mother made costumes from ordinary materials such as aluminum foil and cardboard from old or used boxes.

Growing up, he was never intimidated when talking to adults, like other ordinary young children, as he often talked to them when he was in the hospital.

His father was eager to find an activity that would make his oldest child happy. When he heard about a talent scout ad on the radio seeking a child actor in Waco, Jeffrey immediately made a four-hour drive into town with his sons to try it out. Both of his sons made it through, but Jansen was not interested in acting and so Jeffrey focused on Jae. Jeffrey brought his eldest son to Los Angeles to participate in many auditions, and Jae did a few well and was considered for many roles because he was a natural.

Career

First step

Jae started his acting career when he was nine years old in 2005 when he landed a minor role in the television series “How I Met Your Mother”, starring Josh Radnor and Neil Patrick Harris. He only had a one-liner, but people commented on how he had a mature voice coming out of a small young body. It led to a series of small roles, including appearing in an episode of “Mad TV” in season 11. and was Little Chuck in the television movie “The Angriest Man in Suburbia” released in 2006.

Jae also appeared as Bo Miller in four episodes of “Friday Night Lights”, a hit sports drama TV series that was loosely based on a novel of the same name, and had a 2004 movie version, also directed by Peter Berg. A year later, he appeared in an episode of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” with Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni; he played the role of Christopher Ryan, a foster child who witnessed a serial rape case who turned out to be his own foster father.

Further success

His remarkable acting led director Peter Berg to cast him in his debut film, “Hancock”, starring Will Smith in the titular role, which eventually grossed approximately $625 million worldwide.

Back in his hometown, Jae became a star and signed autographs for fans at the movie premiere.

In 2009, Jae took part in the movie “The Blind Side” with Sandra Bullock, Tim McGraw and Quinton Aaron, an inspirational biopic of former American football player Michael Oher, and a film adaptation of the novel “The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game” , written by Michael Lewis. The film was about Michael, a homeless African-American high school student, who was adopted by the white, wealthy Tuohy family who helped him become a successful NFL football player.

Jae played the role of SJ Tuohy, who was Michael’s younger brother and friend. Jae made an impression with this movie and became a celebrity. It grossed over $300 million and had several nominations, including Best Picture from the Academy Awards and Golden Globe. Sandra Bullock won the Best Actress award from major awards bodies.

After starring in a successful film, he still focused on his studies and did not return to film until 2013 when he accepted a voice acting job in ‘Robosapien: Rebooted’. He was seen on the big screen again after graduating from high school in 2015, where he took on the role of Tony in ‘Bravetown’, an independent musical film starring Lucas Till and Josh Duhamel, released in limited theaters.

In 2017, he was in one of the official film entries at the Los Angeles Film Festival, ‘The Bachelors’ starring JK Simmons, Julie Delphy and Harold Perrineau. Jae was last seen in the movies ‘Homeless Henry, Through the Tears’ and ‘Depraved’, both released in 2018.

In addition to being an actor, he has been a motivational speaker since September 2019. He encourages people to fight for their dreams as he has fought and been successful all his life.

Private life

Jae is single and there is no news that he is engaged to anyone. He lives in Los Angeles, California and keeps himself sharp by doing monologues during the quarantine period of the pandemic caused by the Covid19 virus.

• He has three tattoos on his body, the most recent done in January. He had them placed on his right wrist with his father’s and mother’s birth dates written in Roman numerals. at Sharpshooter’s Tattoo Parlor in Early, Texas.
• Despite his small size, the athletic department fulfilled his desire to become a football player during high school. His father, who was the team’s coach, was not concerned about his heart, but about his size, as he could easily be crushed by other players who were 100 pounds or more heavier than him. However, no one dared to crash tackle him because of his small size.
• A lead role was turned down by Jae after ‘The Blind Side’, a movie where he was supposed to swim with dolphins, not because he is afraid of them, but because he preferred to play football in his high school like his father, uncles and grandfather . did in the past. His younger brother, Jansen, who was six feet tall and weighed much more, was also on the same team.
• He maintains a friendship with actor Quinton Aaron and posted three photos with him on his Facebook account over 15 years, which went viral. It showed how they looked together every five years since they filmed the movie ‘The Blind Side’.
