He was all over the house exploring every corner of it, and his parents occasionally had trouble finding him hiding somewhere in the house or continuing his explorations outside. He went to Kennedy High School, but wasn’t very interested in studying, preferring to be outdoors, exercising with his friends and cycling to places they hadn’t been before. In 1976 Andy graduated and chose not to enroll in a university, but to travel.

Andy is traveling through Maryland after graduation and just when he decided to go to Alaska, his sister invited him to her wedding, so Andy chose to stay for a while. He started working as a carpenter to support himself financially. He stayed on the job for about a year before finally moving to Alaska, where he began living his “sub-zero life.”
