Victor Belfry was born on April 1, 1977 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and grew up in the same city. He took an early interest in boxing and began training under Claudio Coelho at the age of 12. He then studied Brazilian jiu-jitsu with Carlson Gracie. At age 18, he won the Absolute and Heavy titles under Gracie. He was then invited to Gracie’s gym, where he trained alongside such famous wrestlers as Murilo Bustamante and Ricardo De La Riva.
