Fans have been eagerly awaiting the Vinland Saga Season 2 release date. But while current information is limited, an announcement may not come as soon as many had hoped.

On February 14, 2022, director Shuuhei Yabuta hit fans with a message not carry the typical carefree bliss of Valentine’s Day.

As stated on his Twitter: “We have been hit by an unexpected situation. But now we focus on our work in a stable environment thanks to the support of many people.”

Those who follow the director and production of Vinland Saga Season 2 may already know that unexplained issues have already been discussed back in summer 2021

“This year our team had a lot of problems to solve and we made some tough decisions. But luckily the team composition is almost the same and we are motivated to focus on this season.”

Previous speculation of an anime newsboy called AnimeHype claimed that Studio MAPPA will replace WIT Studio – possibly due to the fact that MAPPA took over from WIT Studio for the final season of Attack on Titan.

Nothing has been confirmed, but it leaves fans guessing what unexpected changes will come to the barbaric tales of Vikings clashing with steel.

Notably, Animehype also previously claimed that a new Vinland Saga Season 2 trailer PV would be out soon. This claim was made shortly before the director discussed an “unexpected situation” affecting the production.

Assuming the rumor of the impending trailer release was true, it’s possible the preview was delayed. Or the director could just be referring to something completely different.

Vinland Saga Season 2 Will Be A Great Departure From Season 1

The end of Vinland Saga Season 1 closed the chapter on the arcs of many characters. And while that leaves the potential for new beginnings, it leaves behind a cast of characters that many have come to love.

Fan of Vinland Saga tweets,
“Farmland Saga was a masterpiece of what I’ve read so far, I hope this season will live up to or even surpass the manga.” Photo credit: Twitter

Vinland Saga Season 2, known by some in the fandom as Farmland Saga, takes a slow approach to life to investigate Thorfinn’s struggles after breaking away from his quest for revenge. A life of battles and bloodshed may fade into the background, but what Thorfinn will choose for the rest of his life is what will follow this season.

This may come as a shock or disappointment to some. Those addicted to gory battle scenes and the harsh realities of war – all preceded by an opening track from artist Survive Said the Prophet in a style reminiscent of Swedish melodic death metal – will have to enjoy Thorfinn’s journey at a slower pace. Older but burdened with past guilt, Thorfinn embraces pacifism.

Aware that not everyone will be on board with Vinland Saga Season 2’s tonal shift, Shuuhei Yabuta another message tweeted next to the tweet of an ‘unexpected situation’.

Director Shuuhei Yabuta tweeted:
“Some people may think this season’s story isn’t suitable for anime series, but I’m not. The story is certainly unique. But there is an important phase to the whole story in this season. And I believe it will make this anime special.” Photo credit: Twitter

However, aside from the dissent, many are excited about the changes Vinland Saga Season 2 will bring. Fans are taking to Twitter to show their support and commend director Shuuhei Yabuta for the care and attention he is putting into Vinland Saga’s anime adaptation.

Shuuhei Yabuta and his team work painstakingly to make the Vinland Saga anime the best possible adaptation of the manga

With everything in the anime and manga worlds, some worried that the director’s tweet could be a warning sign of burnout. Although, others point to contract or financial problems as a possible reason for the ominous tweet. Regardless, Shuuhei Yabuta’s dedication to the project should reassure some.

From stocking Vinland Saga merchandise to celebrating protagonist Thorfinn’s birthday, Shuuhei Yabuta has gone beyond his directorial role to make sure Vinland Saga’s story gets the justice it deserves.

Perhaps a better understanding of the director’s mind can be gained by a previous tweet where he said“If there is a boundary, it is between the original author and the other narrators. I think all storytellers who are not the original authors share what they have read and experienced, officially or unofficially, in the form of their own stories.”

Currently, there is no set release date for Vinland Saga Season 2. Likewise, fans are still wondering if the Vinland Saga manga will come to an end in the coming years. However, Shuuhei Yabuta’s continued transparency is a good indication that an update will be available – hopefully coinciding with the release of the Vinland Saga Season 2 trailer.
