Numerous users have reported experiencing a strange glitch in the Google Calendar mobile app over the past few days. The app appears to create random, non-existent all-day events based on the content of users’ Gmail messages.
As 9to5Google (who reported the news earlier today) notes, various types of emails including delivery notifications, receipts and newsletters appear to be calendar events throughout the day. Some Forget executives using the Google calendar app are experiencing this outage. “It’s like finding landmines in my calendar,” one writer (whose calendar is screenshotd below) lamented.
Google has not yet responded to a request for comment.
If you’re experiencing this issue and want it to stop, the easiest solution as of now is to go to your Google Calendar settings and turn off “Show events from Gmail.” This is also generally a good thing if you want to keep spam invites off your calendar.
