Who is Sona Movsesian?

Born on October 13, 1982 in Montebello, California, USA, Talin Sona Movsesian is a television personality as well as an executive assistant, best known for her work with talk show personality Conan O’Brien. She regularly appears on the show “Conan” as part of numerous comedy segments and has been working with Conan for over a decade.

Beginning of early life, education and career

Sona is of Armenian descent; while she was born in Montebello, her family later moved to Hacienda Heights, and she grew up in a close-knit Armenian community in the area. She attended Armenian Mesrobian School in Pico Rivera in the Los Angeles metropolitan area.

After graduating from high school, she received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern California, one of the most well-known schools in the area, especially as it is the origin of many modern technologies.

After completing her studies, she started working at the media company National Broadcasting Company (NBC) where she started as Page, a one-year paid internship in New York City. NBC is the oldest major network in the US and one of the largest networks in the country, with numerous television and radio affiliates. She eventually became the events and operations coordinator for the network, and through her work she became acquainted with Conan O’Brien.

Team up with Conan

Conan – a longtime talent and on-air personality for NBC – got the chance to succeed Jay Leno, with “The Tonight Show with Conan ‘O Brien”.

Before that, he was the host of “Late Night with Conan O’Brien”. With the transition, many of its crew members, including Movsesian, have been transferred for succession. The show received a major overhaul and incorporated many of the elements that made his previous show successful.

However, the executives later grew suspicious of Conan’s ability to continue the late-night banner, similar to Jay Leno, and after seven months, the latter was brought back to the show. Conan was meant to be moved to a later timeslot, but the decision discouraged him, and he refused to work and continue as host of “The Tonight Show” – NBC eventually paid him $45 million to buy out his contract, ending all associations with the company, making his iteration the shortest of the whole franchise.

Conan, along with most of his crew, eventually found a new home in TBS and settled under the show name “Conan”.

Conan and Rise to Fame

Even before the move to “Conan”, Sona was often used in many comedy skits and segments by the late-night host. He enjoys doing skits involving other crew members and also enjoys traveling to different locations with the intention of doing more content for his show, which often ends in a comedic fashion. Due to her constant appearances on the show, she has become a well-known personality among the fans of the show.

In 2011, she was part of the documentary “Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop”. The documentary focuses on his tour called The Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour, which he did after his “The Tonight Show” controversy. The documentary was made by Conan’s old friend Rodman Flende, with whom he was classmates at Harvard, and she was featured prominently in the documentary. “Conan” is also known for its special episodes that often film shows in other locations around the world, or clips of Conan’s journey to other countries, some of which were biggest hits for him.

Movsesian continues to work as part of the “Conan” team and has been with TBS for ten years now. Like other late night talk shows, they often discuss celebrities, news stories, and politics in a lighter, more comedic tone.

The show’s format is often compared to that of other hosts such as David Letterman and Johnny Carson.

The show has also become so popular that numerous high-profile guests make regular appearances – some of the most notable have been Mark Hamill, Elijah Wood, Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen, and Norman Reedus. Their international trips and specials from abroad do not follow the same format and usually behave like a travel special where Conan often interacts with the locals. Apart from their trip to Armenia, they have been to locations like Qatar, Berlin, Cuba and Italy.

In 2019, they started the series “Conan Without Borders” in which he traveled to Australia, Ghana and Greenland, and Sona also started a podcast with O’Brien and Matt Gourley called “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend”.

Private life

Sona began a relationship with graphic artist Tak Boroyan sometime in the 2010s, and she married in 2018 in Montebello at the Apostolic Cathedral of the Holy Cross. Their wedding had some documentation, especially due to its popularity on television, and the wedding was attended by many of the “Conan” crew members. She is known to practice Armenian Orthodox Christian beliefs. While she is technically Conan’s executive assistant, the two are very close friends, and the two even engage in various activities outside of work.
