Uncle from Another World anime release date set for summer 2022 by Isekai Ojisan trailer preview

A new PV was recently released for the Summer 2022 anime Isekai Ojisan† Also known as Uncle from Another World, Isekai Ojisan is the story of a middle-aged man who wakes up after nearly two decades in a coma. Unlike other isekai stories, however, this comedy series focuses on the return to the real world and all the antics that follow.
Newcomer studio (known for their previous work on the Ganbare Doki-chan ONA) Atelier Pontdarc will animate the series. It is also the first directorial role for director Shigeki Kawai. Although, he has worked his way up in the industry – as a director of Naruto Shippuden episodes and animations and as an animator on several Bleach movies.
Who will be part of Isekai Ojisan’s voice cast?
The series’ voice cast is packed with big names fans will instantly recognize, including Takehito Koyasu – known for his role as JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure’s Dio – as Ojisan. And he’s not the only instantly recognizable voice. Jun Fukuyama, known as Lelouch from Code Geass, will provide the voice of cousin Takafumi.
Fans will also recognize the voice of the mysterious elf helping Ojisan as Haruka Tomatsu (Sword Art Online’s Asuna). She’s not alone. It’s not the first time voice actress Aoi Yuuki has starred in an isekai – rather as Tanya Degurechaff in Youjo Senki. The full cast list can be found below:
- Takehito Koyasu as Ojisan
- Jun Fukuyama as Takafumi
- Haruka Tomatsu as Elf
- Aoi Yuuki as Mabel
- Aki Toyosaki as Alicia
- Mikako Komatsu as Fujimiya
What is the premise of the Isekai Ojisan anime?
After being trapped in an isekai world for 17 years, a middle-aged man known as Ojisan returns to Earth and is locked in a hospital bed. Almost a decade has passed and in that time his family has fallen apart. The only person who comes to greet him is his cousin Takafumi.
But even with a gift of magic and knowledge of a world beyond, Ojisan is much more intrigued by all that he’s left behind. It’s not his family and friends that he’s most concerned about, but how his favorite video game companies have fared after years of progress. After learning of the demise of the once gaming giant Sega, he is convinced that the fate of Earth is just as cruel as what he had to endure in the isekai world.
Compared to the elves and nobles who made up the world out there, Ojisan’s homely appearance made him stand out — and not in a good way. He confides to Takafumi that he was branded an orc and banished. His only saving grace was a mysterious tsundere woman who came to help… but not before admonishing him in front of his face.

Does Ojisan want to reconnect with his family or the woman who helped him survive in the world beyond? Not exactly. In this gag series, Ojisan – with the help of his cousin – is introduced to an evolved world full of new technology and customs. Sometimes it’s the little things like hate comments on his recently released videos or expensive shipping of new tech items. Ojisan may have returned to a world more mundane than where he spent more than a decade, but with his magical skills and mind full of stories from an isekai world, he makes what is normal fantastic.
