Anime lovers, get ready because Crunchyroll has released the list of anime coming to the platform in May.

Quite a few shows are coming to Crunchyroll this month, so I’ve made a list of the 10 best anime classics. I hope you find a show that you will fall in love with!

Trigun (17 May 2022)

Let’s start with a classic, shall we? From the same era as Cowboy Bebop, Trigun is a 26-episode action-comedy anime that aired in 1998. It is directed by Satoshi Nishimura in Madhouse. The anime is based on the manga series of the same name, written and illustrated by Yasuhiro Nightow.

Crunchyroll describes the show as:

Vash the Stampede is a wanted sniper with a habit of turning entire cities into rubble. His path of destruction stretches across the wasteland of a desert planet. Strangely enough, for such a notorious bandit, there is no evidence that he ever took a life. In fact, he is a pacifist who is more doofus than desperado. There is certainly a lot more to Vash than its reputation suggests.

In my personal opinion, the first episode of Trigun is one of the best first episodes of all time. So, give the show a try.

Initial D: First Phase (May 10, 2022)

Takumi’s job as a tofu delivery man had made him one of the best drivers. His life shifts into high gear when the street racing world notices.

Crunchyroll will also stream Initial D: Second Stage and Third Stage starting May 17, 2022. Initial D: Fourth Stage will be released on May 24, 2022.

It’s necessary to catch up on the original Initial D anime series before you can watch the upcoming Initial D sequel MF Ghost.

Link Click (May 17, 2022)

This gem of a show is buried under all the other great anime that came out in 2021, but it’s definitely one of the best. Link Click is a 12-episode Chinese donghua web series produced by Studio LAN and Haoliners Animation League.

Synopsis of the story is:

Cheng Xiaoshi and Lu Guang run a photo printing business, “Time Photo Studio”. To complete the missions for their clients, they use their mating skills to travel to the past to inhabit the moment a photo was taken by the photographer’s body.

If it weren’t for the incredible plot, I’d only watch the show for its sick OP and ED numbers.

Space Dandy (May 10, 2022)

This 2014 sci-fi comedy TV anime series is directed by Shinichiro Watanabe at Studio Bones. With 2 seasons of 13 episodes each, Space dandy will be a fun watch for your next week.

Here’s how the English opening credits describe the story:

Space Dandy: He is a dandy man in space. He combs the galaxy as his pompadour on the hunt for aliens. He searches planet after planet and discovers bizarre new creatures, both friendly and not. These are the spectacular adventures of Space Dandy and his brave space crew in outer space.

Black Lagoon (17 May 2022)

Black Lagoon is a TV anime series based on Rei Hiroe’s manga of the same name. The show is directed by Sunao Katabuchi at the Madhouse studio. Both the seasons of Black Lagoon and the OVA titled Black Lagoon: Roberta’s Blood Trail are coming to Crunchyroll on May 17.

Crunchyroll describes the series as:

Rokuro’s mundane journey to Southeast Asia turns from a pleasure cruise to a feast of pain when modern pirates take him hostage. Revy, Dutch and Benny are the ruthless crew of the Black Lagoon. For them, getting shot at while smuggling drugs, weapons and stolen goods is part of a normal working day – and Rokuro joins the team.

When a character in an anime says, “This is way more fun than Hollywood will ever be!” You better believe it.

Sonny Boy (May 24, 2022)

Sonny Boy is an original TV anime series written and directed by Shingo Natsume in the Madhouse studio. This 12-episode anime is an experience. A philosophical, poignant and inventive experience.

The setting of the story is based on the 1970s horror manga, The Drifting Classroom. The synopsis of the series is as follows:

During the summer holidays, a group of students is transported to another dimension. The students begin to develop strange new powers, so survival in this supernatural world begins.

Fairy Tail (May 3, 2022)

The hit TV anime series is based on the manga of the same name, written and illustrated by Hiro Mashima. The final season of Fairy Tail aired on September 29, 2019. The English dub for all seasons of the anime is now available on Crunchyroll. I’M ALL UP!!!!

Crunchyroll describes the story as:

The story follows a teenage girl named Lucy Heartfilla who is determined to join the infamous magical Fairy Tail Guild. During a daring rescue, she meets Natsu who is part of the guild, and eventually offers her a seat. They become teammates performing various missions for the Fairy Tail Guild. Be ready for an action packed adventure!

Isekai Quartet (May 3, 2022)

This Chibi-style isekai crossover TV anime series is written and directed by Minoru Ashina at Studio Puyukai. The first season of the English dub is already out on Crunchyroll and the second season will be updated on May 10, 2022.

Crunchyroll describes the series as:

The button appeared out of nowhere. There were no signs NOT to push it… so the solution is obvious, right? Is it a trap or the start of something new and exciting? The crews of Re: Zero, Overlord, Konosuba and The Saga of Tanya the Evil will find out when they move from their world to another and get stuck in… the classroom?! See what cute chaos they get in this collection of shorts!

This is the crossover no one asked for, but we all loved it anyway!

Re Main (May 5, 2022)

Re-Main is an original TV animated series written by Masafumi Nishida and directed by him and Kiyoshi Matsuda. Re-Main is the only sports anime series on this list.

The story revolves around Minato Kiyoumizu, a boy who stopped playing water polo after an incident during the winter of his third year of high school. But after he starts high school, he promises to pick up the sport again.

Although it is not Haikyuu!! Re-Main can quench your thirst for a sports anime.

Deca-Dence (24 May 2022)

It is quite rare to get a good original anime these days. But Deca-Dence came out of nowhere to give me 12 weeks of greatness. This original TV anime series is written by Hiroshi Seko and directed by Yuzuru Tachikawa.

The synopsis of the story goes like this:

Humanity was driven to the brink of extinction by unknown life forms known as Gadoll. One day, Natsume, a girl who dreams of becoming a warrior, meets Kaburagi, a weapons repairer. They will shake the future course of this world!

Prison School (May 3, 2022)

This last entry is for all the men and women of culture out there. This quirky and hilarious ecchi anime is directed by Tsutomu Mizushima at JCStaff. It is based on the manga of the same name, written and illustrated by Akira Hiramoto.

Once a girls-only boarding school, Hachimitsu Private Academy has become co-ed. Five boys have been admitted to the academy, namely Kiyoshi, Gakuto, Shingo, Andre and Jo. When the boys are caught peeking into the girls’ pool, prison school begins.

This is it, folks. Here are the 10 best anime coming to Crunchyroll in May 2022. But even more anime TV shows are released. Here’s the rest:
