Tom Sizemeer, the star of Saving Private Ryan, was recently hospitalized after suffering a brain aneurysm. His rep acknowledged this and said he needed to be admitted to intensive care. Tom’s manager, Charles Lago, stated in a statement to Fox News,

‘He’s been admitted to the hospital. His family is aware of the situation and wishes him well. It is too early to speculate on that [a] recovery scenario as it is in critical condition and being monitored.”

According to Charles, an anonymous stranger noticed Tom Sizemore, 61, unconscious in his residence and immediately alerted police.

While Tom Sizemore remains in intensive care, the causes, prevention and symptoms of brain aneurysms are under investigation.

A person has a brain aneurysm if he or she has a severe headache or other symptoms that may be related to a ruptured aneurysm. A few tests can detect bleeding in the gap between the brain and surrounding tissues, while other tests can determine if there are any symptoms of an unruptured brain aneurysm. A few methods can be used to deal with the problem. The first is surgical clipping, in which the neurosurgeon removes part of the skull to access the aneurysm and locate the blood supply that feeds the aneurysm. To stop blood flow, a small metal clip is placed around the neck of the aneurysm.

Endovascular therapy involves inserting a catheter into an artery and guiding it through the body to the aneurysm. To destroy the aneurysm from within the blood artery, a device such as a flow diverter, intraluminal circuit breaker, stent, coils, or a combination of several devices is used. Pain medications, calcium channel blockers, interventions to prevent strokes from inadequate blood supply, anticonvulsants, ventricular or lumbar draining catheters, shunt surgery, and rehabilitation therapy are among more therapies for burst brain aneurysms.

Tom Sizemore, who developed a heroin addiction at a young age, failed drug tests in 2005 while on probation. He was also on probation when he was arrested in 2007 on charges of methamphetamine possession. In a 2013 interview, he said he sobered up after being persuaded by actor Robert De Niro, who also drove him to treatment. Sizemore told Access Hollywood in an interview,

“I stepped in to see my therapist and there were all these people there… I sit down and Bob comes in and says, ‘Okay. Now we can talk… Listen to me, I’m not a psychiatrist… So you go to rehab or to jail, and then a cop shows up.”

Tom Sizemore said he initially laughed at it, but De Niro threatened him with a year in prison. The latter reportedly promised Sizemore that he would fly him to rehab on a private jet, but Sizemore recommended waiting until they finished producing the crime thriller film Heat. Sizemore revealed that he shot Heat’s final scene and planned to attend the treatment, but instead went to a hotel and checked in under a different identity. He also said that De Niro was able to locate him.
