The Virgin Islands is serving Elon Musk with a subpoena in the Jeffrey Epstein case

Where’s Elon? That’s what government officials in the Virgin Islands want to know.

On April 28, they attempted to serve a subpoena for documents to Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and Twitter, as part of a lawsuit involving accused sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and megabank JPMorgan Chase. But the billionaire was nowhere to be seen.

“The government contacted Mr. Musk’s counsel via email to ask if he would be authorized to accept service on Mr. Musk’s behalf in this matter, but received no response confirming or denying his authority.” officials said in a lawsuit earlier today in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.

According to CNNthe government of the Virgin Islands has had so much trouble tracking down Musk that they had to hire an investigative firm.

Musk is not charged with any crimes. But the Virgin Islands attorney general’s office wants him to share “any communications between Musk and JPMorgan related to Epstein or any role the disgraced financier played in the financial management of the Tesla CEO.” CNN.

Virgin Islands vs. JPMorgan Chase

Musk’s subpoena is the latest step in a high-stakes lawsuit brought by the U.S. Virgin Islands government against JPMorgan Chase. The territory claims the bank “turned a blind eye” to prove that Jeffrey Epstein used JPMorgan to facilitate sex trafficking activities on his private island, Little St. James, until his suicide in 2019.

The complaint says the investigation “demonstrated that JPMorgan knowingly, negligently and unlawfully provided and pulled the levers by which recruiters and victims were paid and was indispensable to the operation and concealment of the Epstein trading enterprise.”

JPMorgan Chase has denied any allegations and said it will vigorously defend the lawsuit.

What does all this have to do with Elon Musk? According to Reuters, Musk may have introduced Epstein to his contacts at JPMorgan. Now the Virgin Islands want to better understand the nature of their relationship.

At the time of writing, Musk had not responded to requests for comment.
