Life and career

Growing up close to her mother, Annie became interested in a career in makeup at a young age. She developed her skills over the years and eventually found her way to Hollywood where she worked on several projects throughout the 1980s. One of her first projects was 1989’s “Make the cube shine‘ which starred Christian Slater, telling the story of a skateboarder who tries to push himself to the limit. Numerous professional skateboarders took part in the creation of the film.

Other projects she was involved in include ‘Bachelor Party’, ‘The Rosary Murders’ and ‘Hot Pursuit’, then the television movie ‘Stagecoach”, as part of the makeup crew. There she met and later began a romance with Willie Nelson – the film was a Western starring Nelson alongside Johnny Cash, and is an adaptation of the 1939 film of the same name starring John Wayne. In the film, Nelson plays the historical figure Doc Holliday who was known for his work as a dentist and gunfighter at the same time.

Willie Nelson grew up in Abbott, Texas, where his father worked as a mechanic; he never got to know his mother as she left after he was born.

His father later remarried, leaving him and his older sister in the care of their grandparents. Growing up, he developed a love for music that was influenced by his grandparents. He learned to play the guitar and began singing at a local church with his sister.

He attended Abbott High School, where he played with the school’s American football, baseball, and basketball teams. He lived life primarily as a farmer, raising livestock while furthering his education and fostering a passion for music. He later joined a band called The Texans, founded by his sister’s husband, and played on a local radio station.

After graduating from high school, he briefly worked as a telephone operator along with other odd jobs while performing in a band. He then joined the United States Air Force, where he stayed for a few months before returning home.

Music Beginning – Willie Nelson

He enrolled at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, where he studied agriculture. However, dissatisfied, he dropped out and decided to fully pursue a career in music. He successfully auditioned for a job as a DJ, despite having no previous experience, and used the station’s equipment to his advantage to record songs that he sent to local music labels.

He was largely rejected at the time, but also found work in nightclubs. Seeking more opportunities, he traveled to San Diego, but was unable to find a job, then hitchhiked to Portland, Oregon, where his mother supposedly lived, but was unsuccessful, leading him to travel to Eugene.

After numerous failed attempts, he started his career with the Vancouver, Washington based television station KVAN where he had the opportunity to perform for the first time, while also appearing on a television show and performing in nightclubs. Dissatisfied with the lack of progress, he moved back to Texas and settled in Waco, where he took a break from making music.

Eventually, he met and befriended singer Larry Butler, who offered him a job as a singer, which led to the real beginning of his music career.

Willie Nelson’s success

Willie slowly gained recognition, which led him to sign with D Records and move to Houston, Texas. He continued to work as a singer and DJ, writing songs that would become staples of country music. Some of his popular songs from that era include “Pretty Paper”, “Crazy”, and “Hello Walls”. In 1960 he moved to Nashville and signed a contract with Pamper Music, which led to his first album called “…And Then I Wrote” two years later. Two years later, he signed with RCA Victor and had several chart-topping hits.

His career changed significantly in 1973 when he signed with Atlantic Records and developed his own outlaw country style that would bring him great success. After the release of “Shotgun Willie”, he released commercially successful hit albums with “Red Headed Stranger” and “Stardust” – his music showed a new style to the more conservative sound Nashville was known to produce. He continued to create his songs and albums in the 1980s, touring while finding other projects as well. He appeared in numerous film roles and wrote books, and became deeply involved in the marijuana legalization campaign.

Private life

Annie was not Willie’s first wife as he went through three failed marriages before they met.

After meeting on the set of “Stagecoach”, they started a relationship, which led to their eventual wedding in 1991. They have two children together, although he has five other children from his previous relationships.

She is known to have supported him during his issue with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) – in 1990 the IRS seized most of its assets due to alleged unpaid taxes in excess of $32 million. This was due to poor accounting and investments advised by a former employee. The debt increased significantly in the latter part of the 1980s with an increase in his profits, although it was eventually appealed, to about $16 million, of which he paid $6 million. He then released an album to help pay his debt, and after three years he was debt free.
