Born Vincent Neil Wharton on February 8, 1961 in Hollywood, California, USA, of Mexican and Native American descent, he is the son of Clois ‘Odie’ Wharton and his wife Shirley. He faced many problems during his childhood, such as moving around the US a lot, living in Inglewood, Watts and then Glendora where the family settled. He attended Sunflower Intermediate School and then enrolled at Royal Oak High School.
During his high school days Vince took his first steps towards becoming a professional musician, but was also interested in basketball, surfing, wrestling and football, among others.
Career
Before Motley Crue, Vince was a member of the band Rock Candy for two years, after which he joined Motley Crue, with the help of his high school friends, Tommy Lee, the band’s drummer. From 1981 to 1992, Vince and Motley Crue became one of the most famous glam rock bands, releasing albums such as “Too Fast for Love” (1981), “Shout at the Devil” (1983), “Girls, Girls, Girls” (1987) , and “Dr. Feel Good” in 1989.
He left the band in 1992 and started his solo career, but reunited with Motley Crue in 1997, and the same year they released a new studio album, “Generation Swine”. Since then the band has been working on new music and taking several breaks, but they are now active and on another US tour. Vince was involved in a car accident that ended the life of Nicholas ‘Razzle’ Dingley; Vince was behind the wheel and after the crash it was discovered that his blood alcohol level was 0.17. As punishment, he spent 15 days in jail and also had to pay back $2.6 to the victims. He also received 200 hours of community service.
He has had several other legal issues, including alleged fraud, battery use, and drunk driving.
