Who is Robert Griffin III?
Robert Lee “RG3” Griffin III was born on February 12, 1990 in Okinawa, Japan to parents Robert Griffin Jr. and Jacqueline Ross – his parents were both US Army sergeants stationed in Japan at the time. When they went back to the US, they were stationed at Fort Lewis in Tacoma, Washington, then assigned to New Orleans, Louisiana. In 1997, his parents retired from the military and settled permanently in Copperas Cove, Texas.
High School Sports
Robert was a star in three different sports at Copperas Cove High School. Although he excelled in basketball, football and track and field, it was football that paved the way for his college recruiting. Several universities begged him to play for them, including Houston, Stanford, Illinois and Washington State. Initially, he wanted to play for Houston, but when the head coach transferred to Baylor University, he decided to join him there. Another reason for his decision was the university’s athletic program.
His rookie year with the Baylor Bears football team was a success and he was awarded the 2008 Offensive Freshman of the Year in the Big 12 Conference.
His performance during his college days was remarkable. Even if his team failed to make it to the national championship, he ended his college football career by winning the Heisman Trophy, making history by being the first Baylor player to win it, as well as the first player to miss the national championship. since Tim Tebow in 2007. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in political science in 2010 and went on to pursue a master’s degree in communications the following year.
Robert’s record was also remarkable. He won the 400-meter hurdles in the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship, as well as the Big 12 Conference Championship. He even qualified to participate in the Olympic trials, but only advanced to the semifinals.
In 2012, he entered the NFL Draft and was the second overall pick of the Washington Redskins.
He wore the number 10 jersey with his Griffin III on the back, making him the first professional player in the four major sports to use a Roman numeral with his name. His rookie season was a huge success and he earned the 2012 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year title and was selected to the Pro Football Writers Association (PFWA) All-Rookie Team. He also had the opportunity to be included in the All-Star 2013 Pro Bowl, but injuries prevented him from making it.
The following season did not go well. Robert failed to duplicate his rookie performance, and his not-so-great stats continued into the next season. It didn’t help that he kept getting injured and even got a concussion in 2015; the Redskins had no choice but to release him to the Cleveland Browns in 2016, on a $15 million two-year contract.
He became the team’s starting quarterback, but was injured again and had to be sidelined. After one season, he was released by the Browns and became a free agent.
In 2018, he signed a one-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens and served as the team’s backup quarterback. He performed well during the season and so his contract was extended for another two years, and he is currently doing great with the team.
Robert was previously married to Rebecca Liddicoat, a college sweetheart and fellow student of Baylor in 2013. They had a daughter in 2015, but the marriage was on the rocks and in 2016 Robert filed for divorce.
- Grete should have been training for the 2020 Olympicsbut was again sidelined when she gave birth to their second child.
- Grete was once labeled a homewrecker by some fans as they believed she was the reason Robert’s first marriage didn’t work out, but it was revealed that Robert was separated from his first wife for several months before she entered the picture. However, she was the reason he filed for divorce as he wanted to be single and free to pursue her without any legal issues. His first wife was reportedly blindsided by the divorce and hoped to reconcile with him.
- Grete’s name was tattooed on Robert’s arm, and she later reciprocated by having his name on her arm as well.
