“The Playing Card Killer” will premiere soon on Netflix
The playing card killer, a new movie on Netflix, is expected to captivate viewers. Through this miniseries, viewers are taken on a disturbing journey into the mind of one of Spain’s most famous serial killers. The four-part Spanish documentary, which will premiere on June 9, 2023, is getting a lot of attention.
At the heart of The Playing Card Killer are the gruesome murders of Alfredo Galán, which he committed in Spain in the early 2000s. Galán, also called “The Playing Card Killer”, scared many people by leaving a menacing playing card at every murder scene. His terrifying nickname resulted from this ominous detail.
To present an in-depth investigation of Galán’s crimes, the documentary series, directed by Luis E. Herrero, combines archival footage and interviews with journalists, police officers and psychiatrists. Each of the four hour-long episodes offers an in-depth look at the case, including the investigation, the effect on the victims’ families, and how the playing card killer’s terrible reign affected the greater community.

Produced by Netflix and La Coproductora, the series seeks to provide insight into the minds of serial killers and the long-lasting consequences of their crimes through a combination of expert interviews and disturbing historical footage.
The infamous playing card murders
In early 2003, Alfredo Galán began a murderous rampage that left a trail of destruction. Juan Francisco Ledesma, his first victim, sadly died after being shot in the head in front of his 2-year-old son. The ace of clubs, the first of several terrifying playing cards to be found, was left behind by Galán.
Juan Carlos Martin Estacio, an airport worker, was also shot in the head and killed as a result of the killer’s brutality. The ace of clubs, which serves as Galán’s signature card, was again left next to the corpse. Subsequent installments of the series will explore further attacks, such as Santiago Eduardo Salas’s remarkable recovery from a gunshot wound to the face.
The Playing Card Killer turned himself in to the police in July 2023 and admitted his crimes. It was discovered that he brought a gun from Bosnia to Spain while hiding it in a television. Galán adopted this trademark, although he first denied placing playing cards at the murder sites because of the media attention to the case.
Galán was found guilty of six counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder and received a prison sentence of 142 years and three months. The court also took into account other important pieces of information, such as the bullet discovered at one of the crime scenes, the clothes Galán wore when committing the murders, and the identification of the killer by the survivors.
Netflix’s The Playing Card Killer gives viewers a compelling and terrifying look into Alfredo Galán’s reign of terror. The four-part documentary, which will premiere June 9, 2023, will immerse viewers in the crimes, investigation and long-lasting effects Galán had on the victims’ families and the wider community. The series explores the psyche of a prominent serial killer using a combination of expert interviews and historical footage, giving viewers an immersive true crime experience.
