The first trailer for The Boys spin-off Gen V looks damn good

The first trailer for The boys spin off show Gen V shows us that superpowered students are just as flippantly violent as the adult supers from the original series. The show takes us to Vought International’s Godolkin University – a university that specializes in educating the next generation of superhumans – where it seems the students are ahead of all the murders and mayhem caused by established heroes like Homelander.

Famous characters from The boys will make guest appearances on the show, including A-Train (Jessie T. Usher), Ashley Barrett (Colby Minifie), and Adam Bourke (PJ Byrne). Gen V otherwise features a new cast, starring Jaz Sinclair, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Clancy Brown, Chance Perdomo, Jason Ritter, Alexander Calvert, Shelley Conn, Lizze Broadway, Maddie Phillips, London Thor, Derek Luh, Asa Germann, Sean Patrick Thomas and Mark Pigossi.

A screenshot from the Gen V trailer. A man in a green vest sits next to a doll of The Deep from The Boys.

The trailer also shows shots of “Avenue V” (a riff from Avenue Qwhich itself is a parody of shows like Sesame Street). Why is The Deep a puppet? And why are dolls dismembered? Who knows, but we’re dying to find out.

Details for the upcoming Amazon series are a bit thin regarding plot or characters, but this first look should fans of The boys that the apple didn’t fall far from the tree. Next to a shot of a character that looks like they marinated in a vat of blood (reminiscent of The boys protagonist Hughie Campbell’s own numerous gory incidents), we also see brutally disemboweled dolls from an apparent Avenue Q spoof called Avenue V, wild frat parties and someone who can ostensibly shoot guts out of his hands to strangle opponents. Nice.

Amazon hasn’t given an official release date yet, but the show will premiere on Prime Video sometime in 2023 – possibly before the fourth season of The boys touches our screens.
