The Battle of Awaji Island confirmed for Summer 2022

The Orient Season 2 release date has been confirmed for July 2022, the Summer 2022 anime season. The second season is officially called Orient: The Battle of Awaji Island.
The number of episodes has not yet been announced. However, Orient Season 2 may have multiple courses, as Awaji Island’s storyline is the longest in the Orient manga series (see the manga comparison below for more details).
Multiple additional Japanese voice actors will be added to the Orient Season 2 cast. Orient Episode 12 introduced new characters: Tatsuomi Uesugi (Tomoaki Maeno), Kanetatsu Naoe (Natsuki Hanae), Masayuki Amakasu (Yoshiki Nakajima), Akihiro Shimazu (Koki Uchiyama), and Katsumi Amako (Gakuto Kajiwara).
The announcement on the official website also specifically mentions the new Orient episodes as the second course in the anime TV series. Thus, Orient Season 2 can be officially considered as Orient Part 2 as part of the split-court first season.
What is a ‘cour’, you may ask? For those unfamiliar with the lingo, a “cour” is a three-month TV broadcast block based on the physical seasons that usually consist of 10 to 13 episodes.
A “split-cour” is where a single anime season takes a break of several months before resuming TV broadcasts.

The Orient anime is animated by the Japanese animation studio ACGT (Animation & Computer Graphic Technology). The company is best known for its collaboration with Studio JC Staff on the 2019 anime A Certain Scientific Accelerator. As for anime projects where ACGT was the lead studio, they produced the 2004 Initial D Fourth Stage, the 2011 Freezing anime. and the 2017 Dies Irae anime.
Presumably, given the short lead time, the main staff will return to produce Orient Season 2.
The anime project is headed by director Tetsuya Yanagisawa. Writer Mariko Kunisawa provides the scripts.
Artist Takahiro Kishida is the character designer. Composer Hideyuki Fukasawa wrote the music.
The Orient Season 2 OP (opening) and ED (ending) theme song music has not yet been announced.
For the first season/cour, the Orient OP “Break Out” was performed by Da-ice, while the Orient ED “Naniiro” was performed by Wataru Hatano.
There was a slight delay in the release date of Orient Episode 11 due to media coverage of an earthquake on March 16, 2022.
For example, Orient Episode 11 was released back-to-back with the season one finale, Orient Episode 12, on March 23, 2022.
This article contains everything known about Orient Season 2 (Orient: The Battle of Awaji Island, Orient Part 2) and all related news. As such, this article will be updated over time with news, rumors and analysis. In the meantime, let’s get into what is known for sure.
Crunchyroll Orient Season 2 English Dub Release Date Predictions
The first season of the Orient anime was streamed exclusively on Crunchyroll outside of Asia during the Winter 2022 anime season (not Netflix, FUNimation, Hulu, or Amazon Prime Video).
On February 15, 2022, Crunchyroll confirmed that an Orient dub will be released in English. The anime will also be dubbed in Spanish, Portuguese, French and German.
- Musashi: AJ Beckles
- Kojiro Kanemaki: Stephen Fu
- Tsugumi Hattori: Emi Lo
Crunchyroll’s Orient English dub release date was February 23, 2022.
Presumably, an English dubbing of Orient season 2 will be announced in the future. Most likely, the dub will premiere in August 2022.
Orient manga compared to the anime
The story for the anime is based on creator Shinobu Ohtaka’s Orient manga. She is best known for one of her earlier works, Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic.
The Orient manga, which has been serialized since May 2018, was until Volume 14 on January 7, 2022. The manga series was originally serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine, but switched to Kodansha’s Bessatsu Shonen Magazine on February 9, 2021.
North American publisher Kodansha USA provides the English translation of the official Orient manga. The digital release began in April 2020, while the print volumes were released in January 2021. As of June 7, 2022, the print edition will be up to Volume 9, while the digital edition is already up to Volume 11.
The anime adaptation’s pace wasn’t bad, as it adapted an average of 3.5 manga chapters per episode.

All in all, the end of the first season, Orient Episode 12: Where This Road Leads, found a stopping point corresponding to Volume 5: Chapter 42.
It’s the best stopping point since the next storyline, the Awaji Island Recapture Operation Arc, is the longest in the manga series.
The good news is that there is plenty of source material to make Orient Season 2. It’s possible that the second season could adapt all 73 chapters of the Awaji Island two-course storyline, but it’s also possible that this storyline won’t be finished until Orient season 3. The latter option wouldn’t be surprising, given the anime- adaptation quickly catches up with the manga.
English-only manga readers can read the anime ahead by jumping directly to Orient Volume 6.
