Country Life Acres, a village in Missouri, is the most affluent place in the US.
That’s based on five years of data from the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey covering 2017 to 2021. Insider looked at average data on family income for placesincluding everything from small unincorporated towns to the largest cities in the country, across the country.
Some places with available data had much higher household incomes than other places in the US. In Country Life Acres, there were 34 households based on the five-year data. The median household income was $617,688. This figure is $432,430 when looking at the average for those with income only.
The 20 most affluent places, based on places with available data, all had household incomes over $485,000. Four of the top 20 are places in New York, including the village of Brookville. With 733 households, the median household income in Brookville was $617,173. For households with income, the average was $561,681 in this New York location.
The following are the 20 most affluent places in the US based on places with estimates from the American Community Survey.
20.Glenview, Kentucky

Average household income: $486,494
Glenview is next to the Ohio River and close to Indiana with a relatively small population. According to the American Community Survey for 2017 to 2021, there were 546 people living in this city. According to Yelpsome top things to do in this area include going to the Kentucky Derby Museum or going to the Louisville Mega Cavern.

Average household income: $487,510
Martin’s Additions was home to 1,045 people according to the five-year American Community Survey. The Washington Post wrote about this place in Chevy Chase not too long ago in 2020 and reported that there is “a mix” of different types of homes. According to Google Maps, it is only a short drive to the Smithsonian National Zoological Park and American University.
18. Chevy Chase Village, Maryland
Average household income: $489,515
Chevy Chase Village is another Maryland place that tops the list. With a population of 1,858 based on five years of data, the place has a few different parks and is not far from Arlington, Virginia. Are website notes that it has “walking distance access” to multiple things, including restaurants and transportation.

Average household income: $495,617
According to Google Maps, about an hour from Reno, Nevada, this small census-designated place had a population of 215. The small location, in terms of population and number of households, is on Lake Tahoe and less than a 10-minute drive from Burnt Cedar Beach and just over a 15-minute drive to Sand Harbor Beach in Nevada.

Gulf Stream, a city on the outskirts of Florida, had a population of 893 based on five years of data from 2017 to 2021. It’s at the bottom of the state and not far from Fort Lauderdale or Miami.

Average household income: $502,857
The census-designated place of 163 people in Boulder County ranks high in multiple areas per niche. While the overall Niche grade is an A, public schools, as well as health and fitness, top that with an A-plus. Housing and jobs were also rated well at this location with an A-minus and an A-score respectively.

Average household income: $510,494
With a population of 11,390, Hillsborough is not far from San Francisco Bay and is also over half an hour, possibly about an hour away from San Jose according to Google Maps. According to his websitethe town is home to the Carolands, part of the National Register of Historic Places.

Scarsdale, a town in New York, had a population of 18,063 based on data from 2017 to 2021 and according to the website has just over 20 parks and different types of sports programs for adults and children.

Round Top, a city in Texas, was home to 120 people based on five years of data from 2017 to 2021. It’s about an hour and a half from there to Austin, Texas, according to Google Maps. One thing you can do at this Texas location is go see her antique tone.

Hewlett Bay Park, a village in New York, had a population of 322 and is about a 20 minute to about half an hour drive from Long Beach, New York. Are website states that “each lot is at least 1 acre, giving the community a rural aesthetic.” This location in New York scores high on niche with a total score of an A plus. The location also received an A-plus for public schools, being “good for families”, and health and fitness.

This California city, home to 7,181 people according to five-year data, is near Stanford University and a half-hour drive from Purisima Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve according to Google Maps. This city in San Mateo County is ranked as the ninth place to live in the county by niche where multiple areas such as outdoor activities and commuting rank highly on the site.

Hawleyville, Connecticut had a population of 131. This census-designated place is not far from New York and about an hour from New Haven according to Google Maps. The location is small – with 30 households with an average size of 4.13.

Crows Nest, a city in Indiana, had 75 people and 26 households, according to Census Bureau data. It is near the Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center and the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis.

This census-designated place in Florida had a population of 484 Insider’s former correspondent Tanza Loudenback previously wrote, “This man-made island sitting nicely off the coast of Miami Beach is only accessible by boat – usually by yacht.” According to the website for Fisher Island clubthe club is “South Florida’s most exclusive golf and private club”.

Hunts Point, a city in Washington, was home to 324 people from 2017 to 2021, according to data. This Washington location is adjacent to Fairweather Bay and Cozy Cove. It is also by the Wetherill Nature Reserve, which has several trails. The Hunts Point website states that “its rural feel and proximity to Seattle and the Eastside help make it a highly desirable place to live.”

Tuxedo Park, a New York village, is not far from Mount Peter Ski Area in Warwick, New York – about half an hour away according to Google Maps. It is also at Dater Mountain Nature Park but has a few as well parks with various amenities. This place had a population of 651, 360 households and an average household size of 1.81 based on Census Bureau data.

Redfield was home to 117 people based on five years of Census Bureau data and where the average family size was 1.95. This small census-designated place is somewhat close to a few national forests, such as Angelina National Forest.

Average household income: $611,239
Tokeneke had an average household size of 3.25 per Census Bureau data for 2017 to 2021. With 816 households and 2,656 people, the Census-designated place in Connecticut is at the lower end of the state.

Brookville, a New York town, had a population of 2,937 and an average household size of 2.66 according to Census Bureau data. It ranked #28 in the state niche for “Best Places to Raise a Family.” Overall, it had a high score on Niche of an A plus considering not only the family score, but also things like public schools, jobs, and outdoor activities.

Country Life Acres, a village in Missouri, had an average household size of 2.76 and 94 people, according to the American Community Survey. People can go to some of the best things to do in St. Louis per Yelp given the location, such as going to The Gateway Arch or visiting the art museum.
