Tesla plans to spend $770 million on Texas Gigafactory expansion
Electric vehicle maker Tesla has notified the state of Texas of its plans to spend more than $770 million to expand its already massive Austin plant.
Some of these projects will begin construction within weeks.
The aptly named “Gigafactory Texas” opened in April 2022 and has over 10 million square feet of floor space (about 100 football fields), making it the second largest building in the world by volume. The facility is Tesla’s fourth factory in the US and is currently being used to produce some Tesla Model Y vehicles, with plans to produce the company’s long-delayed Cybertruck sometime in 2023.
Tesla will be live streaming investor day on March 1, 2023, from the Texas Gigafactory. Hopefully, we’ll get more information on the expansion than between Musk’s attempts to placate investors.
