Swarm tells the story of a young woman named Dre (Dominique Fishback), just one of countless fans who see global megastar Ni’Jah (Nirine S. Brown) as their lord and savior, as well as a multi-platinum artist. Part of the “swarm” — Ni’Jah’s legion of devoted fans who consume her music with a religious fervor — Dre isn’t used to feeling all alone. But when Dre’s sister and fellow fan Marissa (Chloe Bailey) begins to withdraw, Dre’s relationship with the concept of Ni’Jah begins to shift, and Swarm‘s new trailer shows just how horrifying the psychological transformation of the deranged fan is.

The trailer leaves it very open to interpretation as to why exactly Dre starts killing people around her while seemingly becoming more like her idol. However, it makes it very clear that the amount of time Dre is fixated on a Ni’Jah Twitter fan account is a big part of the problem – and that her descent into madness will be very fascinating to watch when Swarm hits Amazon on March 17.
