Some surprising news has come to light about the most anticipated anime series of this spring and perhaps 2022 in general. Spy X Family is brought to life by not just one animation studio, but by two: Wit Studio and CloverWorks. A new schedule has revealed which animation studios will be working on which episodes for the first season of this highly anticipated manga adaptation.
Wit Studio is best known for animating the first three seasons of Attack on Titan. It is also behind the animation for the new hit series Ranking of Kings. CloverWorks is best known for the animation for My Dress-Up Darling and The Promised Neverland. Both studios produce top-notch work, even though the works they have produced are very different.
The Spy X Family premiere did not disappoint in the quality of the animation and it was a pleasure to watch the Twilight Family come to life. Now that I’ve seen the second episode, I can say that it’s very hard to tell the difference between the two animation studios – just that they both do a great job.
CloverWorks Animated the Most Iconic Proposal in Anime History
As stated in Shonenleak’s tweet below, Wit Studios will be producing the odd numbered episodes (one, three, five etc) while Cloverworks will be working on the even numbered episodes (two, four, six etc). Can you see that the first episode was produced by Wit studio? And the second was produced by CloverWorks?
If you haven’t seen this anime yet, I highly recommend it as the romcom to watch this season. The story begins with a spy who is given a difficult mission to keep the peace between the rival nations of Westalis and Ostania by spying on Donovon Desmond – the leader of an extremist political party in Ostania.
However, Desmond is a notorious hermit and the only way for the Westalis agent codenamed ‘Twilight’ to get close to him is to enroll a child in the same private school as Desmond’s son and pose as the father of the child.
Twilight creates the alias ‘Loid Forger’, adopts a young orphan girl named Anya (who happens to be an Esper and has the ability to read people’s minds), and marries a woman named Yor Briar (she happens to be a hit man) to ‘happy family’ that will be accepted in the eyes of society.
Luckily for Loid, Anya loves all things spies and excitement, so her help comes in handy. Neither Yor nor Loid are aware of the true identities of the others, except Anya who can read their minds.
It will be fun to see Loid step into the role of father and husband in the upcoming episodes. He has already proposed to Yor in Spy x Family Episode 2 using a grenade pin ring amid a massive explosion, and who knows what kind of excitement (waku waku) Spy x Family Episode 3 will bring.

Hayami Sayori and Takuya Eguchi return as best seiyuu duo
Fans have been impressed by voice actress Saori Hayama’s elegant performance as Yor Forger, attributing her vocal talents to Yor becoming the best waifu of the season.
Saori Hayam’s main voice roles are Yukino Yukinoshita in My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong, As I Expected, Yumeko Jabami in Kakegurui, Musubi and Yume in Sekirei, Kamisato Ayaka in Genshin Impact, Ayase Aragaki in Oreimo, Shirayuki in Snow White With The Red Hair , Yui Kusanagi in Ludere Deorum, Cardia in Code: Realize – Guardian of Rebirth, Miyuki Shiba in The Irregular at Magic High School, Himawari Uzumaki in Boruto, Shinoa Hirragi in Seraph of the End, Yotsugi Ononoki in Monogartari, Shoko Nishimiya in A Silent Stem, Chiriko Tsurumi in Anohana, Ushiwakamaru in Fate/Grand Order, Shinobu Kochou in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Rachel in Tower of God and Yamato in One Piece.
A nice thing to note is that voice actor Takuya Eguchi lends the voice of Loid Forger, which makes Takuya Eguchi and Hayami Sayori perhaps the best seiyuu duo since they brought life to another unique anime confession in the anime Oregairu with the unforgettable line: “Allow me the privilege of disrupting your life.”
Let’s be happy that this voice actor/actress duo is disrupting the lives of anime audiences again in Spy x Family!
