Thomas’s ambition to play professional football has come true
Thomas was a National League player for Boreham Wood before joining Huddersfield Town in January 2021. But his football journey from non-league to championship has not been easy and he has fought hard, which paid off tonight. He was told he wasn’t good enough when he was at Boreham Wood, which hit him hard as he was nothing but excellent at football growing up.
He had never been informed before so he threw away his boots and shin guards, he said in an interview with Sky Sports. But it was his parents and some of his friends who gave him the courage to start over. He rejoined the club and started from the bottom.
He learned the importance of working for everything while at the club, especially outside the league. He had to coach to keep himself afloat financially, and that helped his development immensely. When he left his parents’ house, he had to mature quickly and needed some time to adjust to a professional environment, moving from three days a week to almost seven days a week, which was an important transition for him. But becoming a professional football player is a dream come true every day.
His outstanding performance earned him the EFL Championship award for the month of August 2021. He was first called up to Rob Page’s senior Wales squad for their 2022 World Cup qualifiers in September 2021, and he was included in the 2022 FIFA World Cup selection in Qatar in November 2022.
When Wales called him, his mother burst into tears.
Thomas had always wanted to play for Wales, and his wish was granted. During an interview, he said he touched himself to make sure it wasn’t a dream. Rob Page went to see how he played, and on the day of a Huddersfield game he was told he had been chosen. He was in his hotel room when he heard the news and contacted his mother. He was on the phone with his mother, who was crying. It showed him how much it meant to him, but it was huge to his mother, he added.
He was a striker before becoming a winger.
Thomas grew up idolizing Thierry Henry and Ronaldinho, which fueled his passion for the game. He wanted to be like them. He wasn’t always a striker, but he was always a striker until he joined Boreham Wood. He started his career as a winger and he flourished.
Net value
His net worth is now estimated to be around $2 million, and given his meteoric rise, it is sure to rise in the coming days.
