Due to a COVID outbreak at Studio Doga Kobo, the release date of Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie Episode 7 has been postponed to May 28, 2022.

Additionally, several other episodes of Kawaii dake ja Nai Shikimori-san will be delayed, meaning the release date of Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie Episode 12 will be pushed back to the Summer 2022 anime season.

During the spring of 2022, Studio Doga Kobo experienced a rapid spread of COVID-19 among members of the studio staff. To contain the spread of the virus, no staff was allowed to enter the office from April 6 to April 17, 2022.

For this reason, the episodes of Technoroid Overmind were postponed to premiere in July 2022. On May 13, 2022, the studio confirmed that multiple episodes of Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie are similarly delayed due to the COVID pandemic.

Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie Episode 12 Release Date Delayed Until Summer 2022 Anime Season

Here’s the currently scheduled TV schedule:

  • Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie Episode 6 Release Date: May 14, 2022
  • Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie Episode 1 Rebroadcast with Cast Commentary: May 21, 2022
  • Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie Episode 7 Release Date: May 28, 2022
  • Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie Episode 8 Release Date: June 4, 2022
  • Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie Recap Episode with Cast Comments: June 11, 2022
  • Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie Episode 9 Release Date: June 18, 2022
  • Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie Episode 10 Release Date: June 25, 2022
  • Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie Episode 11 Release Date: July 2, 2022
  • Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie Episode 12 Release Date: July 9, 2022.

Let’s hope there aren’t any additional delays to Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie finale. The 86 anime was delayed due to production issues and the 86 finale was postponed for months because other anime TV shows were already scheduled for the TV show timeslot by the Japanese broadcasters.

The end result was a situation akin to the infamous Wonder Egg Priority Episode 13. That anime TV show also suffered multiple delays, and the finale was released for three months – an entire season! – later.

Crunchyroll’s Shikimori isn’t just a Cutie OP trailer.

Who is Studio Doga Kobo?

The Japanese animation studio Doga Kobo (which literally means “video factor”) has been around for a long time. The company was founded in July 1973 by former Toei Animation members and became known for making romantic TV shows and life stories.

Lately, the studio has been best known for crafting manga slice-of-life comedies such as Asteroid in Love, How Heavy Are The Dumbbells Lift You? and NewGame! Their more recent anime projects include the Ikebukuro West Gate Park anime, the My Senpai is Annoying anime, and the Osamake anime.

In 2022, Studio Doga Kobo also released the (delayed) Technoroid Overmind anime and the RPG Real Estate anime. In the future they will be working on the Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle season 2 anime.

The first season of Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie anime was directed by director Ryouta Itoh (My Senpai Is Annoying) and assistant director Shouhei Yamanaka. Writer Yoshimi Narita (My Senpai Is Annoying) wrote the scripts.

Artist Ai Kikuchi (New Game!, Love, How Heavy Are The Dumbbells You Lift?) was both the character designer and the chief animation director. Composer Hiroaki Tsutsumi (Tokyo Revengers Season 2, Ahiru no Sora, Devil May Cry, Dr. STONE, Jujutsu Kaisen 0, Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2, Monster Musume, By the Grace of the Gods, My Senpai Is Annoying) created the music.

Hopefully, Studio Doga Kobo will return to create the anime TV series Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie Season 2. Stay tuned!
