Hellbound, the acclaimed Korean drama, has been revived for a second season. TUDUM, Netflix’s worldwide fan event, hit the headlines on September 24. Hellbound is based on the webcomic of the same name, which depicts a world in which humanity must deal with the messengers of hell (dubbed “angels of death” on the program), who deliver unexpected and prophetic decrees that send individuals to hell.
The show’s first season is considered one of the most promising K-dramas to debut on Netflix in 2021. Despite ending on a cliffhanger, there was no renewal for a long time, leaving fans of the webcomic and program on the brink. Now that the program has been renewed, let’s take a look at what we can expect from the upcoming season.
Hellbound’s second season may be directed by Kim Hyun-joo.
Hellbound’s first season ended strong. Song So-hyun (Won Jin-a) and her husband Bae Young-jae (Park Jung-min) offer their lives to save their child from the angel of death when Song So-hyun receives a judgment from the angel to her child. After their deaths, the Kim Hyun character is Joo’s Min Hae-jin who inherits the baby, making her one of the stars of the show for the future season. Questions have to be asked about how she takes care of the child, what her secret organization is and who will replace Yoo Ah-in in the second season. Yoo Ah character in Jung Jin-soo died in the first season because he was one of the many people who received a death sentence.
The first season also had a lot of tension, thanks to the figure Arrowhead, who spread hatred and violence among his followers. The origin of the Angels of Death is the biggest mystery for Hellbound enthusiasts from the first season. Are they really remarkable creatures? Or are they a mechanism heavily used by someone to achieve their goal? The comic book Hellbound is based on also had no answer to this question. Instead, it focused on the suffering of those who were sentenced to death by the angels of death.
The majority of the world thinks that the judgment is the result of the sins committed by the subject of the judgment. However, there is no definitive justification for this idea, which was created by the Church of the New Truth for its own benefit. Before being killed by the smoke demon, Jin Su (Yoo Ah-in) was a member of the same body.
It is now up to Hae-jin to refute the claims of the Church of the New Truth. If only sinners were sentenced to death, what sin would a newborn baby have committed? Song So-kid hyun’s holds the key to unlocking all the mysteries, and it’ll be intriguing to see where the show goes in the future.
