The prospect of a summer of transfer speculation surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo has risen with the veteran striker who would have asked Manchester United to leave if given an acceptable offer.
Ronaldo, 37, would like to play Champions League football again next season.
The Portuguese striker was United’s top scorer last season with 24 goals, but the Red Devils could only finish sixth in the league table.
Ronaldo, who has another year on his contract with United, plus an optional year after returning from Juventus to Old Trafford last summer, is playing in the Europa League for the first time.
The PA news agency has reached out to representatives for Ronaldo and Manchester United for comment on the reports.
Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Napoli are among the clubs that would keep an eye on the situation.
