Redfall is playable on Steam Deck – with the right settings

Nearly four hours later, I’m not convinced at all redfall is a good game – unless there’s a lot of hidden depth, it feels like a rare miss from Arkane.

But unlike that other recent major release, Star Wars Jedi: Survivoryou can make it playable on Steam Deck with a few simple tweaks.

I’m not saying it will look Good, but it’s a lot better than the default setting!

For: 24 fps for this grainy mess below.

So what’s the magic solution? Well, the game appears to have 800p medium spec on the deck as standard – and with some form of AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR 2.1 Quality) that currently doesn’t seem to work on the deck.

Instead, I’m running the game at 1280 x 720p, low spec, with FSR 2.1 Ultra Performance, and while the game can look a bit muddy in motion, at least it’s playable now!

These are the settings I used:

Before you start playing, I recommend one more small adjustment: open the quick settings menu of the deck and under Performance set your refresh rate to 40 Hz and frame limiter to 40 fps. That should improve both battery life and responsiveness – you might notice my settings using more power, but I immediately noticed a drop in wattage after locking the refresh rate and FPS to 40 each.

Until or unless Bethesda and AMD release some fixes, that’s my recommendation for redfall on deck.
