The Galaxy Awards have honored exceptional programs, individuals and groups since 1963. This is intended to raise the standard of Japanese broadcast culture.

The prizes are divided into four categories: television, radio, advertisements and news activities. The evaluation and selection period for the annual awards is defined as the period from April 1 to March 31 of the following year.

In the TV category, TV shows are the first to receive the monthly awards. In the first and second half of the year, the awards committee meets to select the annual winners from among the monthly winners whose names appear in the GALAC magazine.

The anime Ranking of Kings was chosen for its character depth, multidimensional plot, “remarkably excellent action sequences” and showing deep emotions.

The Galaxy Prize Committee explained why the prize was awarded as follows:

“We think a powerless prince who is deaf and unable to speak is a common succession story, but it digs deep into each character and is layered. A great story was made of it, and despite the simple design, they drew action scenes with amazing intensity and richly expressed complex emotions. It showed the brilliant possibilities of animation.”
