Platoon removes lessons feat. Kanye West from the on-demand library

Music is a big part of any Platoon workout, but Kanye West, now legally known as Ye, won’t be. In recent days, Peloton has removed hundreds of lessons from its on-demand library of Ye’s music.

In late October, Peloton began telling members that Ye’s music would no longer appear in new classes following the rapper’s anti-Semitic remarks. Previously filmed classes, however, were left alone. Now it seems that Ye’s presence has been completely scrubbed off the platform.

According to the unofficial Peloton, classes first began to disappear on Dec. 6 fan site Pelo Buddy. The edge also confirmed that searching for “Kanye West” or “Ye” no longer returns results on our Peloton Row review unit or on Peloton’s desktop site. The purge will affect classes in a variety of activities, including cycling, tread, boot camp, yoga, and strength. It’s unclear whether the classes have been completely removed or are simply no longer searchable by users. The edge contacted Peloton for comment, but did not receive an immediate response.

The situation underscores how music can make or break an affiliated fitness service. Although Ye is a single artist, he is a popular fixture in hip-hop fitness playlists. For the purification, CNN reported that that Peloton had about 1,800 lessons with Ye in his library. While Peloton will fine close to 2,000 classes, the same can’t be said for any other connected fitness platform. In this case, Ye’s music will still appear in Apple Fitness Plus playlists on Apple Music. While this may be a minor issue, for now it’s a reminder that affiliated fitness companies aren’t just hardware manufacturers, they’re also entertainment companies.
