A new Shaman King season 2 sequel has been confirmed to be green-lighted for production shortly after Shaman King 2021 Episode 52 was released in Japan on April 21, 2022.
The real Shaman King sequel anime will apparently adapt the story of the Shaman King Flowers manga as the story focuses on Hana, the son of Yoh and Anna. That means Shaman King season 2 will jump forward 7 years for the next storyline.
As such, some of the Japanese voice cast and English dubcast will need to be “obsolete” as certain returning characters mature. (See the Shaman King Season 2 English Dub section below for more details.)
The story of the Shaman King Flowers manga was never finished, so it’s possible that the Shaman King anime sequel can quickly adjust the currently available chapters and then go straight to the next sequel, Shaman King: The Super Star, of manga creator Hiroyuki Takei.
But how will the lack of a solid ending affect the anime sequel, given that that manga continuation went on hiatus in September 2021 without ending? It’s possible that Takei could finish the manga’s story in the meantime or supervise the making of the anime’s ending to make sure it follows his vision.
The studio and staff creating the Shaman King sequel have not yet been announced.
The Shaman King 2021 anime project is produced by Japanese animation studio Bridge, founded by former members of Studio Sunrise. Bridge is best known for its collaboration with major studios. For example, they worked with A-1 Pictures/Cloverworks on the Fairy Tail anime series and Toei Animation on the Saint Seiya: Soul of Gold anime.
Studio Bridge has made its own anime productions, including the 2017 The Royal Tutor (Oushitsu Kyoushi Heine) anime, the 2014 Nobunagun anime, and the 2013 Devil Survivor 2.
Shaman King 2021 was directed by director Joji Furuta (The Seven Deadly Sins Season 2). Writer Shoji Yonemura (Pokemon) provided the series scripts. Artist Satohiko Sano (Talentless Nana, Welcome to Demon School, Iruma-kun! Season 3) was the character designer. Composer Yuki Hayashi (My Hero Academia, Haikyuu!!) created the music.
The Shaman King season 1 anime had a total of 52 episodes in four courses. What is a ‘cour’, you may ask? For those unfamiliar with the lingo, a “cour” is a three-month TV broadcast block based on the physical seasons that usually consist of 10 to 13 episodes.
The Shaman King Blu-Ray/DVD box set had a total of four volumes and each contained 13 episodes. The final box set, containing episodes 40 through 52, was released on May 25, 2022.
The Japanese TV broadcast of Shaman King season 1 aired without major interruption from April 2021 to April 2022 (exception was the Japanese TV broadcast of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo). As in, it wasn’t a split-cour anime, that’s when a single anime season takes a break for several months before resuming.
The Season One finale, Shaman King Episode 42, was released on April 21, 2022.

Shaman King Season 2 Release Date Predictions: Is 2023 Likely?
As of the last update, Netflix, Studio Bridge or any other company related to the anime production have not officially confirmed the release date of Shaman King season 2. However, it was announced that the Shaman King sequel would be green-lighted for production on April 21, 2022.
Once the news about Shaman King Season 2 Netflix US release date (and the Japanese TV broadcast) is officially confirmed, this article will be updated with the relevant information.
In the meantime, it’s possible to speculate about when the Shaman King Flowers anime release date will take place in the future.
The official announcement articulated it as the Shaman King “sequel production decision”. Green light for production means that a producer has put the project in the pipeline and the actual animation production work in a studio will be scheduled at a later date. Being in production means the beginning of the actual pre-production phase.
Continuing the Shaman King reboot with an actual sequel was apparently planned ahead of time, so it’s entirely possible that the producer already planned the studio, main staff, and voice cast. That’s important because most of the anime industry’s workforce is booked out years in advance.
As such, the Shaman King season 2 release date is predicted to be in 2023.
Episodes are also predicted to come out first in Japan. The international audience will once again have to wait for the Shaman King Season 2 episodes to be released from the so-called Netflix prison.
As Netflix USA users know, the streaming giant likes to binge-watch US and international audiences instead of releasing weekly episodes. The Shaman King Season 1 episodes aired for the first time in Japan before streaming on Netflix. That meant that 2021 Shaman King was split into multiple batches of episodes, but all 52 episodes were considered the same season by Netflix.
This was a welcome change of pace, as in the past Netflix USA tended to number anime seasons differently than the Japanese anime industry. For example, WIT Studio’s Great Pretender anime was technically a single season released as several parts over time, but the final installment was labeled Great Pretender Season 2 by Netflix. Likewise, The Seven Deadly Sins: Dragon’s Judgment anime was the fourth final season, but on Netflix US it was labeled as The Seven Deadly Sins season 5.
Shaman King Season 2 English Dub Release Date Predictions
Netflix releases its exclusives with subtitles and dubbing for multiple languages, including English, French, German and Spanish.
Netflix announced the Shaman King English dubcast when the episodes were first released in August 2021. As such, the Shaman King season 2 release date should be on the same day as the Netflix premiere.
As noted earlier, characters maturing in the Shaman King sequel will need to age, which may mean changing the voice cast.

Shaman King Season 2 OP and ED
The Shaman King Season 2 OP (opening) and ED (ending) theme song music has not yet been announced.
For the first cour/part, the Shaman King OP (opening) theme song music was “Soul Salvation”, while the ED (ending) was “#Boku no Yubisaki” (My Fingertip). The Shaman King 2021 music features returning singer Megumi Hayashibara. She performed two OPs and two EDs for the original Shaman King 2001 anime.
For the second course, the ED switched to “Adieu” as performed by Yui Horie.
For the third course, the VP switched to “Get up! Shout!” as performed by Nana Mizuki. The ED also switched to “Lunar August (Hazuki)” as performed by the three piece band saji. The single from the song was released on October 27, 2021.
For the fourth and final court, the ED switched to “Courage Soul” as performed by Youko Hikasa, the voice actress who played the young Yoh Asakura.
Shaman King 2021 anime ended the end of the original manga
The story for the Shaman King 2021 reboot was based on creator Hiroyuki Takei’s Shaman King manga. The manga series, which appeared serially in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from 1998 to 2004, ended in 2004.
Recently, Kodansha USA has started publishing a 35-part Complete Edition of the English Shaman King manga series. It will be the first time the last few volumes will be released with an English translation (VIZ Media, which is no longer licensed, had previously published up to and including Volume 32).
The 2021 Shaman King remake took the story from the original manga to the end by adapting all 35 volumes of the Shaman King manga’s Complete Edition.
In comparison, the original Shaman King 2001 anime consisted of 64 episodes. Since the original anime ended in September 2002, which was two years before the manga ended in August 2004, the original anime began to deviate noticeably from the source material as the America storyline began to be adapted in chapters 81 through 107.
The Shaman King sequel will pick up the story in the Shaman King Flowers manga, which appeared in JumpX magazine from April 2012 to October 2014. Due to the sudden cancellation of JumpX magazine in 2014, the story of Shaman King Flowers was never finished and released only 29 chapters in 6 parts.
So it’s possible that the anime adaptation of Shaman King Flowers will completely adapt the manga and then go straight to adapting the next sequel, Shaman King: The Super Star. The Shaman King: The Super Star manga has been posted to Shonen Magazine Edge since May 17, 2018 and is also not a finished story.
Manga creator Takei has discontinued the latest Shaman King manga sequel effective September 2021. There are only 36 chapters in total available for making the anime sequel.
Both Shaman King: The Super Star and Shaman King Flowers have been released in the US by Kodansha USA with an English translation. The latest installment, Shaman King: The Super Star Volume 5, was released in English on July 6, 2021.
Shaman King Flowers anime spoilers (plot summary/synopsis)
16 years after the shaman fight in Tokyo 2000, the story begins with Hana Asakura, the son of Anna and Yoh Asakura. Unfortunately, Hana grew up to be a lazy and cheeky child.
Hana ignores his studies and skips school whenever he can. He participates in gang fights to stave off his boredom from everyday life.
That all changes when the killers arrive. Two members of the Asakura family, Yohane and Luca, challenge Yoh and Hana to the death to take their place in the main house.
Hana’s dull life is now over as he is now embroiled in the Corn Flower’s proxy battles. It is a team tournament designed to prevent the destruction of the planet when members of the G8 contest the Shaman King’s actions. The leaders will choose 5 members to represent them and the winning team will get a miracle.
