Narvel Blackstock is an American television producer, music executive, and former steel guitarist; he is considered the one who helped Reba McEntire become a successful musician and actress. He has worked as a producer on such films as “Is There Life Out There?” (1994) and “Secret of Giving” (1999) among others.

Narvel Blackstock was born on August 31, 1956 in Tarrant County, Texas, USA, to Narvel Leroy Blackstock and Gloria Elizabeth Alexander. He spent his childhood in his hometown and grew up with his sister, Patricia Ann Blackstock.

Career
He started his career as a steel guitarist and after a few bands he joined Reba McEntire’s band. In the beginning, Reba and the whole band struggled to make an impression, but with the early ’80s, Reba became increasingly popular. After her career took off, Narvel acted as her manager, and with him by her side, Reba became a widely known country singer and would later embark on an acting career, the success of which Narvel was partly responsible.
Executive producer
Narvel started Starstruck Entertainment, producing a number of movies starring Reba, and would also go on to manage Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton. The first film in which Narvel is credited as an executive producer is “Is There Life Out There” (1994), starring Reba, Keith Carradine and Genia Michaela. Four years later, the film “Forever Love” followed, again starring Reba, while in 1999 Narvel signed his name on the third film “Secret of Giving”, starring Reba McEntire, this time alongside Thomas Ian Griffith. and Ronny Cox.

He later began collaborating with Blake Shelton and produced a number of TV specials, including ‘Blake Shelton Live: It’s All About Tonight’ and ‘Blake Shelton’s Not So Family Christmas’ (2012). In 2012, he served as the executive producer of the “Malibu Country” TV series, again starring his now ex-wife Reba, while in 2013, he served as the executive producer of the television special, “Kelly Clarkson’s Cautionary Christmas Music Tale”.

Narvel then started a romance with Laura Putty Stroud, a real estate agent from Nashville, and also his ex-wife’s best friend.
This left Reba heartbroken, but she has managed to get over this and moved on with her love life, dating photographer Anthony Skeeter Lasuzzo for two years, before breaking up.

Born Reba Nell McEntire on March 28, 1955 in McAlester, Oklahoma, USA, she is the daughter of Clark Vincent McEntire and his wife Jacqueline. She has a brother Pake and two sisters: Susie McEntire-Eaton, a Christian music singer, and Alice Foran, who is now a retired social worker and lives in Lane, Oklahoma.
Reba became interested in music at an early age and taught herself to play the guitar. She would join other siblings on trips, sing several songs and form the group Singing McEntires, perform at rodeos, and even record the song Reba wrote, “The Ballad of John McEntire”. Despite school commitments, Reba continued to pursue music, and in 1974 she performed the national anthem at the National Finals Rodeo in Oklahoma City. She was spotted by Red Steagall, whom she left in awe, and he offered to help her jumpstart her career as a country singer.

Reba recorded a demo tape in 1975 and subsequently signed a contract with Mercury Records.
Career
In the beginning, Reba struggled to make a major impact on the music scene, with her debut single “I Don’t Want to Be a One Night Stand” only reaching number 88 on the Billboard country music chart. This was followed by another single and a debut album, but without great success.
However, in 1979 she released her second studio album “Out of a Dream” which received much better reviews and chart success, and Reba rose to stardom, releasing 33 studio albums to date – some of the most popular releases are “Whoever’s in New England”. ‘ (1986), which became her first No. 1 album and first to achieve platinum status, then ‘What Am I Gonna Do About You’ (1986), another No. 1 album, and ‘Reba’ came two out years later. Since then she has had success, especially with the albums It’s Your Call” (1992), “Read My Mind” (1994), “Reba: Duets” (2007) and “Keep On Loving You” (2009).
She has become the record holder of No. 1 albums by a female country artist with 16, and has sold over 65 million albums in the US and over 90 million worldwide. Her most recent album is “Stronger Than the Truth” released in 2019.

Before marrying Narvel, Reba already had one failed marriage; in 1976, she married bull wrestling champion Charlie Battles, who was 10 years her senior. The two lived on a ranch in Oklahoma, but she divorced Charlie when her career took a turn for the better. The couple officially divorced in 1987.
