Microsoft’s awesome OneNote merge starts with a single app in the Windows Store

Microsoft has merged its OneNote and OneNote for Windows 10 apps into one app for the past year, and now there is only one version of OneNote in the Windows Store. The great OneNote merge, as I call it, has brought a number of features from the UWP OneNote for Windows 10 app to the traditional OneNote desktop app, in addition to a visual refresh.

Now Microsoft wants to make sure you download the correct version of OneNote in the future. “OneNote for Windows 10 will no longer be available in the Microsoft Store,” explains the OneNote team in a blog post. “It will continue to work, but it will not receive any new feature updates and will reach the end of support in October 2025.” If you still need to download the OneNote UWP version to a new device, technically you can still use the direct shop link here as a temporary solution.

Inking and dictation have both arrived in this main OneNote app in recent months, along with a simplified one-line ribbon that makes the main interface feel a little less cluttered. But this full-featured OneNote app still doesn’t feel as lightweight and touch-friendly as the OneNote version for Windows 10. That’s a shame, because OneNote for Windows 10 was one of Microsoft’s better UWP apps, even though the company has largely abandoned his dream for the Universal Windows Platform app.
