McDonald’s removes ‘tasteless’ ad next to crematorium

Talk about a bad sign!

A McDonald’s in Cornwall, England is, well, under fire for posting a bus shelter ad for a McCrispy chicken sandwich next to a crematorium sign across the street.

“While I can see the funny side, it’s insipid and I’m sure some grieving relatives will not enjoy visiting Penmount for a loved one’s funeral and cremation,” an anonymous woman said of the choice of ad, per local outlet Cornwall lives.

The advertisement attracted a lot of attention online because it is located in a particularly busy area on route A309 between Truro and Carland Cross.

A spokesman for the fast food chain told the outlet that the ad would be removed.

“We were not aware of the road sign near this bus stop,” the company said. “However, in light of CornwallLive’s concerns, we have requested that our ad be removed.”

Cornwall Live originally posted a picture of the ad on their Instagram account where people started discussing whether or not the ad was offensive or if the coincidence was funny.

“My mom’s funeral was there in October last year. I think that’s a sign of bad taste for fast food, maybe put down as a joke, it should be removed pronto,” one woman commented.

“I find it funny in a twisted way,” argued another. “People have [too] a lot of time on your hands these days.”

The outlet then shared on Sunday that the ad had already been replaced with a board showing an access pass to a local art gallery.

“Right next to a sign for Penmount Crematorium, in Truro, the previous image of the McCrispy burger is now compared to a new ad that read ‘get your locals pass,'” the outlet wrote on social media. “However, it is an advertisement for Tate St Ives, and not an ordinary pass to be cremated.”

Perhaps it’s best for everyone involved if the ad space just stays empty for a while.
