Season 17 of America’s Got Talent (AGT) ends on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC. The winner of this season was the Lebanese dance ensemble Mayyas. Not only did they win the championship, but they also earned $1 million and the chance to perform in America’s Got Talent live performance at the Luxor Hotel on the Las Vegas strip.
Mayyas’ triumph was widely celebrated on Twitter, as they were one of the fan favorite groups in season 17 of AGT. During the tryouts, the dance ensemble received Sofia Vergara’s golden buzzer and gave fantastic performances all season long. This season of the famed reality talent competition featured a plethora of contestants from all backgrounds showing great skill in many creative forms, dazzling judges Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, Howie Mandel and Heidi Klum. Despite the fact that there was only one winner, several participants became big names.

A look back at Mayyas’ experience on AGT Season 17.
Mayyas made their AGT debut with the intention of breaking the prejudices that surround Arab women. Nadim Cherfan, their choreographer, said before their audition that Lebanon is not a country where people can make a profession of dance, and that this atypical route is much more difficult for women. The group took the stage with complete confidence in their routine for the audition round. When the judges asked what to expect from their performance, the women claimed their dance would mesmerize everyone. The ensemble received rave reviews from the live studio audience and a standing ovation from all the judges after their performance. While Sofia said it was the most beautiful and inventive dance she had ever seen, Howie said:
“You know, you said you’d hypnotize us, and when we sat here and saw the movement and perfection, and the amount of work and effort that went into it, we were hypnotized by what you’ve accomplished.”
Simon Cowell said their performance will influence many others. He also said it was arguably one of the most spectacular performances they’d ever seen on AGT. Maya’s favorite part of the show was when Sofia Vergara stated that she wanted to inspire more women through their performance and then pressed the golden buzzer to send them straight to the semi-finals of the qualifier. The Lebanese dance team performed a dance performance that told the story of the snake in the Garden of Eden in the semi-final. The judges gave this act another standing ovation.
They then advanced to the final, beating other formidable opponents. The trio performed an “intricately planned dance sequence, including giant feathers to create the appearance of a garment on the main dancer” in the finale performance, which aired Tuesday, September 13.
The group’s spectacular performance captivated both the audience and the judges. As a result, they were named AGT Season 17 Champions. Mayyas previously won season 6 of Arab’s Got Talent, becoming the first and only Middle Eastern dance troupe to compete in Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions. Their success at AGT this season has once again earned them a thumbs up, enabling them to pursue their goal even further.
