The anime television series Masamune-kun’s Revenge Season 2 has been green-lighted for production.

The official title of the second season is Masamune-kun no Revenge R. In the story, Makabe Masamune is still trying to carry out his revenge plan on the beautiful Adagaki Aki in Paris, but a French girl intervenes.

The number of episodes has not yet been announced. However, it is possible that the second season will adjust the entire remaining story up to the end of the Masamune-kun’s Revenge manga and even adjust the After School storyline. (See the manga comparison section below for more details.)

The first announcement of Masamune-kun no Revenge Season 2 was humorously made during April Fools’ Day 2022.

Initially, the official Twitter page released an image that read on a sign, “Masamune-kun’s Revenge Season 3 Production Decision.” A chibi Aki said, “Wait a minute. What are you doing!? We need a 2nd season for the 3rd!” Then, a follow-up removed the Season 3 sign to reveal the actual announcement of Masamune-kun’s Revenge Season 2. Photo credit: Twitter
A trailer for Masamune-kun’s Revenge Season 2 also previewed the second season on April 1, 2022.

For the first season, the Masamune-kun’s Revenge OP “Selfish Mirror Heart (Waramama Mirror Heart)” was performed by Ayaka Oashi, while the ED “Elemental World” was performed by ChouCho.

The Season One finale, Masamune-kun’s Revenge Episode 12, was released on March 23, 2017. The 12 episodes were released as six Blu-Ray/DVD volumes.

Masamune-kun’s Revenge Season 2 English Dub Release Date

A few years ago, Funimation released the English dub of Masamune-kun’s Revenge. Crunchyroll streamed the episodes when they were released in Japan.

After Sony bought both Funimation and Crunchyroll, it was announced that the two streaming platforms will merge content on Crunchyroll starting in Spring 2022. So Crunchyroll will be streaming Masamune-kun’s Revenge Season 2 in the future and will be responsible for every dubbed version.

Crunchyroll’s Masamune-kun’s Revenge Season 2 English dub release date has not yet been announced.

Masamune-kun’s Revenge Season 2 studio and staff

The anime studio and staff creating Masamune-kun’s Revenge Season 2 have not yet been announced.

The first season of the anime TV series was produced by the Japanese animation studio Silver Link, which is known for other anime series such as Strike The Blood Season 5, BOFURI: I Don’t Wanna Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense, The Dungeon of Black Company, The World’s Finest Assassin Is Reincarnated In Another World As An Aristocrat And My Next Life As A Villainess: all routes lead to disaster!

In 2022, Silver Link will also release The Greatest Demon Lord Is Reborn as a typical Nobody.

Studio Silver Link also produces a lot of anime sequels in the future. BOFURI season 2, Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World season 2, The Misfit of Demon King Academy season 2 anime, and a 2023 My Next Life as a Villainess movie are all in production.

Masamune-kun’s Revenge Season 1 was directed by director Mirai Minato. He was also the Silver Link director for most of the studio’s recent projects, including BOFURI, Our Last Crusade of the Rise of a New World, The Dungeon of Black Company, and The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated! He also directed the 2022 The Greatest Demon Lord Is Reborn as a Typical Nobody and was the assistant director of The Misfit of Demon King Academy.

Writer Michiko Yokote (The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated!, Tribe Nine, Grimm, Call of the Night) wrote the series composition and supervised the scripts written by her and Kento Shimoyama (Our Last Crusade of the Rise of a New World, Deep Insanity: The Lost Child, Shenmu The Animation).

Artist Yuuki Sawairi (Wise Man’s Grandchild, Dungeon of Black Company) and Kaori Satou (Our Last Crusade of the Rise of a New World) were the character designers. Composer Tatsuya Katou (Dr. STONE, Sakugan) produced the music.

Masamune-kun’s Revenge manga’s ending compared to the anime

The story for the anime is based on the Masamune-kun’s Revenge manga by Japanese writer Hazuki Takeoka and Korean female artist tiv† The manga series, which appeared in Monthly Comic Rex from October 2012, ended with Volume 10 in July 2018. The final chapter was released on June 27, 2018.

A Masamune-kun’s Revenge OVA episode bundled with Volume 10 told part of the sequel story for the manga. Starting in September 2018, the creators launched a spin-off called Masamune-kun’s Revenge: After School, which showed what happened to various characters after the main story ended.

North American publisher Seven Seas Entertainment provided the English translation of the official Masamune-kun’s Revenge manga. All 10 volumes have been released in English from May 12, 2020. The After School “Volume 11” was released in English in June 2020.

The problem with Masamune-kun’s Revenge Season 1 is that it didn’t live up to its name… unless you read the Japanese title clearly in English as “no revenge”. The anime left fans hanging for years, and episode 12 ended with a karaoke singing contest that felt like filler rather than a solid ending.

All in all, the end of the first season matched manga Volume 6: Chapter 29.

It was a decent stopping point as there was a quick reveal about a class trip that pointed to the storyline of Paris.

With only four manga volumes left to edit, it’s highly likely that Masamune-kun’s Revenge Season 2 will end the main story. It may even cover the After School arc as it is only one manga volume.

Masamune-kun’s Revenge 2 Anime TV Spoilers (Plot Summary/Synopsis)

The next time audiences watch the sequel to Masamune-kun’s Revenge, the characters arrive in Paris. It is the city of romance and Masamune will continue with his “Dead or Love Operation” as his plan for a school festival was an obvious failure.

His new plan soon goes awry when Masamune literally bumps into Muriel Besson, a French girl with eye patches. She wants to learn how to draw manga, but her stories are confusing to a Japanese audience, both historically and linguistically… one of her characters’ names literally translates into “fish balls”!

To improve her manga, Muriel wants authentic Japanese people to serve as a reference point for a romantic comedy. In addition, the French manga artist believes that Masamune personifies the ideal image of a male Japanese high school student and she soon demands that he become her manga model.

Worse, it’s an offer Masamune can’t refuse because Muriel’s older brother has ties to the Yakuza. Their antics turn into a game of manga Inception, as Masamune and Aki are forced to stage a romantic comedy so Muriel can understand how to write the perfect Japanese romantic comedy. Masamune gets stuck between Princess Cruelty and Mademoiselle Otaku.

Masamune is stunned as she reenacts a Japanese romance, but discovers that Aki remembers the events of eight years ago completely differently. She confesses to him, trusting that she started overeating because she loved the young, chubby Masamune from her memories.

“That kid just wanted to be rescued from his bullying,” she told a very confused Masamune. “I was the only one who cherished our time together. I loved him. His chubby cheeks, big belly, everything. I cried it away, stuffed myself with food, and since then I’ve been miserable because my overeating hasn’t stopped.”

“If that’s true, why did you call me Biggie and chase me away?” Masamune asks Aki, blurting out his own secret. ‘Don’t act like the victim! If you are left behind, you just reap what you sow!”

The rest of the story is about how the two young high schools process their disparate memories. Will Masamune still seek revenge by crushing her heart? How can Masamune win Aki’s heart when the counterfeit Masamune gets in the way? Will the Chubby Revival Plan’s High Calories Kill Poor Masamune?

Gasou and the girl’s maid, Yoshino Koiwai, have huge secrets that will change everything for Masamune and Aki.

Unfortunately, anime fans will have to wait until the release date of Masamune-Kun no Revenge Season 2 to see what happens next. Stay tuned!
