Maggie Carey has some impressive acting and directing repertoire. She settled into comedy and gained as much experience as she could before entering the elite film industry.

Theater of the Upright Burger Brigade

Carey began this new phase of her life by moving to Chelsea, New York, where she joined the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater (USB), focused on the art of improvisation, which even had its own sketch on ‘Comedy Central’ for a few years (1998 – 2000).

While part of the troupe, Carey experimented in various improv sketches and became a regular and in-demand actor. She also performed at the Improv Olympics West theater in Los Angeles.

Acting and directing

Carey bean leaves the fickle theater life and makes forays into the movie entertainment space. In 2001, she debuted in “Occam’s Razor: The Great Dialogues of Mindy” as the character Brenda Gibson, a key member of the cast. That same year, she also began putting her education to work by co-writing and directing the movie “LadyPorn” which won the SXSW Award that year.

She then teamed up with fellow comedian and actress Liz Cackowski to produce an online comedy series in 2007 titled “The Jeanie Tate Show”. Maggie attended rehearsals and shows, and something in the shirtless actor’s humor and acting drew her to him; they married after a two-year courtship on May 28, 2006. The two have collaborated on several projects, including the HBO show “Funny or Die Presents” and her movie “The To Do List”.

Rumor Wants Hader’s sex scene in the film to be some kind of elaborate thank you from Maggie for her willingness to participate in the film.

The two went on to have three daughters: Hannah Kathryn on October 6, 2009, Harper on July 28, 2012, and Hayley Clementine on November 15, 2014.
