Fans of A1 Pictures will be happy to hear that the Lycoris Recoil trailer has been released. It revealed that the release date of Lycoris Recoil will be July 2022, the summer 2022 anime season.
The trailer, which was released on the official Twitter and official website, gives fans a first look at the characters that will be featured in the upcoming original series. It also revealed some of the key voice actors associated with the project.
The series was first announced in 2021 and is directed by Shingo Adachi. Fans will recognize his work from the Sword Art Online franchise, as well as countless other anime series.
A1 Pictures is also the studio behind series like Kaguya Sama Love is War and the 86 anime.
What is Lycoris Recoil about?
Without a source material manga, fans might be wondering what Lycoris Recoil is all about.
The trailer introduces a cafe and some employees. According to the Twitter announcement, this is “Cafe Riko Rico” where many of the cast work.
On the official website, the story page gives viewers a little more insight. In translation it says:
“Riko Rico is a Japanese style cafe in the center of Tokyo. The cafe takes orders for not only delicious coffee and sweets! From deliveries to the nearest destination, to pick-ups and drop-offs along the lonely night streets, to zombie extermination, to giant monsters! From zombie extermination to giant monsters! We are here to help you with everything! We solve any kind of ‘problem’!”
It sounds like viewers can expect everything from a fun slice of life to a series with supernatural, imaginative and even action elements!
Who is in the cast of Lycoris Recoil?
The trailer also gave potential Lycoris Recoil fans the chance to hear the voice actors for the first time.
Chika Anzai (Wonder Egg Priority and SSSS. Dynazenon) plays Nishikigi Senzoku, a girl “always smiling and enjoying today from tomorrow”.
Character Inoue Takina is described as a girl “with a cool pay-for-performance personality”. She is voiced by Shion Wakayama (Takt Op. Destiny).
Ami Koshimizu (Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro) plays Mizuki Nakahara, a bar clerk who enjoys reading wedding magazines.
Walnut, a “runaway girl of unknown origin, is voiced by Misaki Kuno (My Dress-Up Darling).
Finally, there’s Mika, the only male character shown so far. He is described as “everybody’s parent” and will be voiced by Kosuke Sakaki (Megalobox).
When and where can I watch the series?
According to the website, the series will premiere in Japan in July 2022. It looks like it Aniplex of America has licensed the series for North American release.
However, if you’re in Japan in June, you might be lucky enough to get a sneak peek of Lycoris Recoil† Episodes 1-3 will have an advanced screening at the TOHO Cinemas Kinshicho Rakutenchi on Sunday, June 12, 2022.
The screening will be followed by what the announcement describes as a “talk show”. Voice actors Chika Anzai (Nishikigi Senzoku) and Shion Wakayama (Takina Inoue) will both be in attendance.
