Beloved football superstar Lionel Messi secured his first-ever World Cup win with Argentina this weekend after scoring two of the team’s goals – and fans around the world are eager to show their support for the athlete.
Adidas, the official supplier of Messi’s Argentina jersey, has confirmed this until CNN that the jersey is sold out worldwide due to “extraordinary demand” from football fans around the world.
A quick search on the company site shows the Messi jersey kits are not available for purchase, including the women’s version of the shirt.
“Since their historic victory, we have produced a range of readily available partywear and will also be making a brand new version of their iconic jersey as soon as possible, with three stars to mark their third World Championship, for fans around the world.” at the outlet.
Messi helped lead Argentina to victory in Qatar on Sunday in an intense and historic World Cup match against France, where his team emerged victorious after a penalty shootout.
Messi finally winning the title also set a record off-field moment for the athlete: the most liked Instagram post of all time.
On Monday, the champion took to the platform to share a photo dump of moments from the big game, led by a photo of Messi excitedly holding the World Cup trophy.
By Tuesday morning, the photo had been liked more than 62,203,420 times, with excited teammates and fans thanking Messi in the comments section, which was flooded with Argentine flags.
The Instagram record used to be in the name of an account @world_record_eggwho received nearly 57 million likes for a photo of an egg taken in an attempt to dethrone Kylie Jenner, who then held the record at 18 million likes for the birth card of her daughter Stormi.
Argentina’s victory over the weekend was the country’s first in 36 years of the Cup. Messi plays in the regular season in the Paris Saint-Germain team, having come over from FC Barcelona in August last year.
Messi’s net worth was estimated to be $130 million, as of May Forbesranked as the #1 highest paid athlete of 2022.
