LG’s new minimalist devices can also be upgraded
LG Electronics has a new line up of minimalist appliances which removes all unnecessary knots and decorative embellishments in a refreshing “less is more” approach. The refrigerator, washer, dryer, oven and dishwasher are said to have improved controls for an “effortless” user experience.
The devices can also be upgraded through software and hardware as part of an LG program launched in January. “Upgradability challenges the idea that expensive appliances are designed with planned obsolescence in mind,” said Lyu Jae-cheol, then president of LG Electronics Home Appliances. “We want customers to feel like they are getting a new washing machine or refrigerator throughout the life cycle of an LG appliance, not just the first time they bring the item home.” Let’s just hope LG doesn’t take over the auto industry page to extort perpetual money from customers by charging fees to activate basic features the devices already ship with.
Unfortunately, LG’s announcement lacks details like specs or pricing or availability dates, so we’ll have to wait until CES kicks off on January 5 to find out more.
