Early life and education
Lena grew up in Bremen by her parents who were both artists, hence her interest in art from a very young age, which her mother noticed when Lena was only two years old.

When she was old enough, she was enrolled in the German School of Athens, where she was one of the top students, and after matriculation, she continued her education at the California Institute of Arts, where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in photography.
Lena continued to work on her education by moving to London, England and enrolling at Lena Wimbledon College before transferring to Goldsmith College. In 2000, she enrolled at the Universitat Koblenz in Koblenz and Landau, Germany, graduating in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science degree.
She enrolled at the University of Georgia, USA in 2005, graduating with a Master of Fine Arts in Dramatic Media.
Lena’s Career
In March 2005, Lena began her internship at Perpetual Motion in Athens, Georgia, working as a 3D generalist, and although she was supposed to stay there for three months, she was eventually retained there because the bosses were amazed at her skills. However, she left the company in September 2006 and started working for Method in Motion (Los Angeles) as their 3D generalist. She then moved back to Germany to work for Scanline VFX as Technical Director Scripting and Pipeline, leaving the company after three years.
In August 2011, she started working at 3DXcite as an application developer and left in 2012 to pursue her PhD, which she obtained in 2018 at the Universitat Stuttgart. From 2012 to the summer of 2015 she was a guest lecturer at Furtwangen University and since 2016 she has been working at the Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF Film University and teaching visual media technologies.
Some of the works Lena is known for are her first comedy movie “1½ Knights – In Search of the Ravishing Princess Herzelinde” released in 2008, “Vicky and the Treasure of the Gods” which came out in 2011, and “When Santa Fell to Earth” also in 2011.
Love life and relationships
Lena met Tim Burton in London in 1985 when they were introduced by a mutual friend at a party – Tim was already somewhat famous. The two got married on February 24, 1987, but the marriage only lasted four years, as they divorced on December 31, 1991, but Lena was his only wife. After their split, Tim started dating Lisa Marie who moved in with him after two years of being together and though the two dated for nine years but did not marry. In 2002, he dated English actress Helena Bonham Carter, who gave birth to their son William Raymond in 2003, while their daughter Nell followed in 2007. In March 2013, Tim and Helena separated.
Lena has not married again, but it is believed that she has been dating someone for more than five years now.
Hobbies and other interests
Lena loves to travel and has been all over the US and visited many European countries such as Italy, Spain and Portugal. She enjoys exploring new places and cities and learning about the country’s culture, history and traditions, including tasting their cuisines, her favorite being Hungary’s spicy food. She likes to watch movies in her spare time, and some of her favorite actresses and actors are Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore and Jim Carrey, while some of her favorite movies are “The Others”, “To Die For” and “Cold Mountain”.
Lena has been an animal lover since she was a young girl – she kept bringing home dogs and cats she found on the street. She often volunteered at a local animal shelter during her teenage years and has had several pets, including dogs, cats, and hamsters. Her favorite sport is skating and her favorite book is “Life of Pi” by Yann Martel.

Tim has directed and produced numerous award-winning films, such as “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” and “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children”.
One of his last works is the film “Dumboreleased in 2019, which follows the story of a young elephant who can fly thanks to his oversized ears.
Tim has won numerous awards, including a Golden Globe for Best Picture – Musical or Comedy for “Sweeney Todd…” in 2008, and three Saturn Awards, including one for Best Fantasy Film for “The Nightmare Before Christmas”, and two for Best animated film for “Corpse Bride” and “Frankenweenie”.
