Early life and family

Michael William ‘Mike’ Comrie was born on September 11, 1980 under the zodiac sign of Virgo in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, where he spent most of his childhood.

Career

Mike began his career as a professional ice hockey player when he signed a $10 million contract with the Edmonton Oilers during the 2000 to 2001 season. At the time, he was a free agent and allowed to sign with any club. During the three-year contract, Mike scored 133 points in 192 games, making him a formidable attacking player.

In 2003, Mike was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers and played 21 games for the Flyers until joining the Phoenix Coyotes that same year, where he played the rest of that season.

In 2004/5 the NHL lockout saw the cancellation of the tournament, during which time Mike moved to Sweden where he competed in the Elitserien of the Swedish Hockey League, the top Swedish league in professional ice hockey in the country – Mike signed with Farjestad BK. When the NHL tournament resumed, Mike returned to play for the Coyotes for the 2005/6 season.

The sports star continued to play for the Coyotes until he was traded to the Ottawa Senators in 2007, where he played a great season with the Senators taking them to the Finals. In July of that same year, Mike signed with the New York Islanders, extending his 2008 contract worth $4 million.

In the 2009/10 season, Mike returned to his former team, the Edmonton Oilers, and in 2010 was transferred to the Pittsburgh Penguins, but due to a recurring hip injury, Mike was sidelined for most of the season. He continued to play for the Penguins until 2012, when Mike announced his retirement on February 13 after repeated hip surgeries.

Mike also played in three World Cup Championships for Canada, in 2002, 2003 and 2006, and won the gold medal with the team in 2003.
