Just a month before, fans of vtuber Uruha Rushia celebrated her birthday, but now – just 5 months before the 3rd anniversary of her debut – COVER has released a statement about her termination. Of the alleged reasons for her early retirement, the breach of contract due to the leakage of sensitive “false” information is the most damning. It is unknown at this time what information was disseminated that led to its termination.

COVER alleges that the company suffered reputational damage as a result of Rushia’s actions. Although they apologize in their press release to fans, they claim that there was no other solution for both sides and that they were forced to part ways with Uruha Rushia.

At the end of March, Rushia’s YouTube channel will be removed. COVER has also stated that they will be reaching out to fans regarding refunds for the vtubers birthday items.

What have Uruha Rushia’s colleagues said about the allegations?

Unsurprisingly, many of Uruha Rushia’s Hololive colleagues are saddened to see her leave. England vtuber, Mori Calliope, wished fans the best as they announced a day off to stream:

I don’t even know what to say now. I’m canceling tomorrow’s stream, I feel sick to my stomach. Please take care of yourself.

Mori Calliopea

Shiranui Flare, Shirakami Fubuki and Tsunomaki Watame briefly spoke about COVER’s statement at their collaboration event with Bakatare. The discussion was brief – possibly due to the nature of the serious allegations – but the general sentiment was that fans remained positive.

All I can say is that I want all my fans to enjoy today’s live Bakatare. I know it’s hard for some of you right now. Still I want you to smile at Hololive again

Shirakami Fubuki

Although we are now only four of us in the 3rd generation, I would be happy if everyone could support us as we continue to work hard together.

Who is Uruha Rushia?

Debuting on July 18, 2019 as part of the third generation of Hololive vtubers, Uruha Rushia – a mild-mannered necromancer whose rage knows no bounds when Dark Souls is involved – quickly became a fan favorite. Notably, Rushia still holds the record for: most super chats on youtube worldwide (and not just among vtubers).

That COVER would terminate her may say volumes about the seriousness of the alleged leak. In previous circumstances, Hololive vtubers have been given “graduation ceremonies” at the farewell of COVER. That Uruha Rushia didn’t get a graduation broadcast comes to the dismay of many fans who may never experience a final stream with their favorite vtuber.

It’s worth noting that COVER owns the intellectual property of the character Rushia, so the chances of a future comeback are unlikely. There are rumors that the host behind Rushia may return with their own original character. So far, nothing has been confirmed.
