Rising candy costs for consumers
Americans will spend $3.1 billion worth of candy this Halloween. But thanks to rising inflation, candy — like pretty much everything else these days — is more expensive. Look at these price increases, thanks to Axios:
Candy is not even spared from the misery in the supply chain. Starburst, made by Mars Wrigley, gets its sugar from the Caribbean, but hurricane season caused freight delays.
But despite the rise in candy costs, American consumers are still planning to grab a big sweet bite. According to an questionnaire from the National Confectioners Association, 82% of Americans are celebrating Halloween this year, and are expected to spend 48% more on candy.
Ahead of the surge, companies like Walmart and Lowes have prepared for Halloween by order more products and fill the shelves early.
Inflation, damn it. Trick-or-treaters are sweet on candy.
