The upcoming free! movie just revealed the key visual for the second installment of The Final Stroke, a film series that plans to end the franchise once and for all by creating a beautiful farewell for the Iwatobi Swim Club and its vibrant cast of characters.
The film will be released throughout Japan on April 22 as part of a nationwide roadshow.
The entire cast has returned to reprise their roles as members of the Iwatobi Swim Club.

The poster text reads: “400 meters left till the future”, that’s about eight lengths of a pool lane!
What do we know about Free! The last battle part 2 so far?
For now, the plot of the upcoming Free! The film has been kept completely secret, which is interesting considering how close we are to the film’s national release date – either way, KyoAni has decided to keep the film’s plot close to their chest. What we do know is that the film was originally going to debut as part of the 2020 Japanese Olympics prior to the unfortunate events that befell the older KyoAni studio, but nothing more about the plot and/or line of the film beyond what has been revealed in the trailers released so far.
You can watch the film’s most recently revealed trailer below:
The description of the trailer reads: “Discard everything to get stronger.” What this means – or who says it – is left to the imagination. What could it mean?
When will the film be released worldwide?
There has been no announcement of a worldwide release date for the film, nor has there been any mention of the film being picked up for a limited release in theaters across America or anywhere. While it’s possible the film will get a widespread release a la My Hero Academia or Jujutsu Kaisen, as Viz Media holds the digital streaming rights to the franchise, it’s unclear at this point when this film will be available worldwide. Hopefully soon – it already looks like a doozy!
