The Formula E all-electric car will make its racing debut on January 14, 2023 in Mexico City. The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) announced the date on Wednesday and shared the for the upcoming ninth season of Formula E.

Before the official start of the competition in January, teams have three days in December to test their new ride in Valencia, Spain. With today’s tentative schedule, Formula E plans to host 18 races in 13 cities. That is two more races and three stops more than the slate for 2022. In addition, the Formula E circuit will visit Hyderabad in India and São Paulo, Brazil for the first time.

If you look at the schematic, you can see a few gaps. Most notably, Formula E has not yet announced a date in New York City. A spokesperson told australia business blog that the organization is in the process of organizing races in South Africa and the US.

Formula E

“New York has been the home of Formula E in the US since season 3, with the exception of the Covid-hit season 6 in 2020, and has delivered some epic races to packed grandstands,” said Formula E chief champion Alberto. longo. “Major construction work in the Brooklyn area will make it challenging to use the current track layout next year, which is why we have not announced a specific date on the preliminary season 9 calendar. However, we will continue to work closely with our local Brooklyn partners to to explore solutions for racing in New York next season.”

The Gen3’s racing debut next year is exciting for a number of reasons. Not only is the car faster than its predecessor, but Formula E has also designed it to be more agile. That should lead to more wheel-to-wheel duels between drivers, and make the resulting races more fun.
