“Emancipation” is released on Apple TV+
Emancipation, Will Smith’s next film, will premiere on Apple TV+ on Friday, December 9, 2022 at 3 a.m. ET. Set in the late 19th century, the story is about an enslaved African-American man who escapes the terrible grip of slavery. On December 2, 2022, the film was released in select cinemas to mixed to positive reviews from audiences and reviewers. On November 16, 2022, Apple TV+ released the official trailer for the movie. The trailer gives a glimpse into the environment in which the film takes place. The breathtaking black and white images quickly transport the viewer to the end of the nineteenth century, capturing the spirit and tone of the time.
Will Smith’s character says in the trailer:
“Thank you God. We have the help of the Lord. “What can a man do to me?”
The teaser briefly illustrates the horrific reality of slavery, with the protagonist frantically trying to escape the bonds of poverty and slavery in an oppressive environment. The three-minute trailer quickly delves into numerous pivotal events from the movie, capturing the gist of the story without giving anything away.

“Emancipation” depicts the uplifting story of Peter (Will Smith), a man who escapes slavery, relying on his wits, strong faith and deep love for his family to evade cold-blooded pursuers and the unforgiving swamps of Louisiana on his journey to freedom.
The summary continues:
“The video is based on photographs of ‘Whipped Peter’ obtained during a Union Army medical examination in 1863, which initially appeared in Harper’s Weekly. One drawing, known as “The Scourged Back”, shows Peter’s naked back being damaged by a beating from his slaves, eventually leading to increased public opposition to slavery. Based on the description and the trailer, fans can look forward to a gripping historical drama that addresses various complex issues such as freedom, slavery and humanity.

Will Smith plays the protagonist Peter in Emancipation, and he looks fantastic in the teaser, despite some fans criticizing his accent.
