Elon Musk could cut half of Twitter’s workforce
Twitter employees have been bracing for layoffs since Elon Musk officially took over the company, and details are starting to trickle in about how many people could be affected. Wednesday night, Alex Heath of The Verge reports that Musk is meeting with advisers, including former PayPal executive David Sacks, and finalizing a plan to lay off about 3,800 employees, while Bloomberg reported that 3,700 would be cut.
According to Bloomberg, the plan is that workers will be notified of the layoffs on Friday and affected workers will be able to receive 60 days of severance pay. Musk also plans to end Twitter’s policy that allows employees to work from home “forever.” Bloomberg reports. This would be in line with text messages we’ve seen from another adviser, Jason Calacanis (revealed as part of Musk’s lawsuit when he was still trying to escape buying Twitter), suggesting he quit working on distance to encourage voluntary departure, and it aligns with his stance against remote work at Tesla.
