“D1CE” would have dissolved after being active for almost four years
The five-member K-pop boy group D1CE officially disbanded on January 20, 2023, after being active for most of their career. Formed by D1CE Entertainment, the trio debuted on August 19, 2019 with their EP Wake Up: Roll the World. However, when their contract with the agency expired, all five members left the company and the group disbanded at the same time. D1CE’s official Twitter account announced the group’s disbandment, tweeting:
“D1CE Exclusive Contract Expiration Information: See the fan cafe post for more information.”
The revelation surprised their fans, who were not expecting it. Since all members, with the exception of the youngest, Jin-young, are still doing their necessary military duty, the disbandment came as a surprise to many fans. D1CE is known for its extensive discography. DON1Ys (D1CE fans), despite their impressive development, were worried about the true reason for their dissolution. A Twitter user wrote on the platform:
“NOT S1CE, PLEASE, NO”
Fans are concerned about the unexpected disbandment of K-pop boy band D1CE.
Although the K-pop boy band has been active for over four years, most fans have known the boys since they were on the reality survival TV series Produce 101, Boys24 and MIXNINE. However, when the unexpected news of their dissolution reached their followers, they expressed concern about the situation. At the same time, the fans expressed concern about their inability to properly say goodbye to the members, as the majority of them are now in the military.
However, other fans have shifted the blame to their agency, D1CE Entertainment. Despite the boy group’s hard work and effort to carve out a niche for themselves in the K-pop market, DON1Ys feel their business has done them no credit. From promotions to outside scheduling, fans feel that the K-pop trio earn much more from their agency as their agency handles most of their representation. At that point, of course, fans expect the members to resurface under a different banner, as most of the fan base liked and respected their music.
The most recent official return of the five-member K-pop boy group was DRAW YOU: REMEMBER ME in 2020, which was well received by fans. However, apart from a few songs like Good Day and OSTs like Mad For Each Other, the group wasn’t very busy after their return. Around 2020-2021, members gradually began enrolling in their required military service, further reducing their engagement with fans and the spread of their work.
Fans also claim that this grew due to their events not being well planned. Since they were a newly formed band, there was a short professional hiatus as the group discovered their foothold in the music business. In addition, the comebacks were staged far apart, which can be dangerous for a bunch of rookies. As more people express their concerns about the abrupt disbandment of a promising boy band, Twitter is flooded with reactions, thoughts and fears from fans, making it a hot topic. While the news is usually depressing, supporters wish members luck in their future ventures and pledge to support them no matter which route they choose.
