Curtin University chooses 9 startups for its new accelerator program

Curtin University has unveiled the startups in its newly designed accelerator program.

Accelerate Curtin is a free program for university researchers, employees, students and graduates. It provides them with the tools to bring their ideas to market quickly and effectively.

The Accelerate program supports innovative projects such as a hardware store platform to connect customers with the right suppliers and improve efficiency, and a household water leak detection device.

What Watcha founder Tamara Berryman said leaks in households were common and often went unnoticed for months, causing damage and costing homeowners, renters, insurers and water boards money while wasting thousands of gallons of water.

“The Wata Watcha uses long-range Wi-Fi to send water usage data to a network device called a bridge, which connects to and uploads the data to our website, where users can access it,” said she.

“The Accelerate program provides a great opportunity for our team to access commercialization experts, investors, potential partners and other invaluable support.”

Procuracon co-founders Cuong Ly and Andrew McColgan have created a web app that streamlines the construction procurement process. Their platform helps developers, land and building owners, and government agencies
