Cream Cheese Cracks List of Top Brands to the Internet’s Surprise

Despite inflation and other austerity measures Americans made this year, some companies continued to grow impressively.

Those were the results of Morning Consult Fastest growing brands report for 2022, which analyzed 1,689 brands that adults buy in the US to see which achieved the highest growth rates over a one-year period.

The company polled subjects by asking them if they would consider buying from the brand in the month of October 2022 and subtracted that number from the respondents who said they would consider buying from the brand in the month of January 2022. They then ranked brands No. 1 through No. 20.

Meta took first place for all adults (from baby boomers to Gen Z), followed by Crocs and then Beats.

But eagle-eyed Twitter users noticed one particularly startling and misguided brand that made this year’s list: Great Value Cream Cheese, which took the No. 8 spot.

The company saw a 2.5% growth from January to October, much to internet confusion.

Other brands on the list decided to join in and also comment on the appearance of the dairy spread on the list, including No. 20 Four Loko and No. 6 Zelle.

Many attributed the brand’s rising popularity to social media’s popular crockpot recipes, which often call for cream cheese in the dish, such as “TikTok Chicken.” Moreover, with the rampant inflation, people want to save money. Great Value Cream Cheese is sold exclusively at Walmart and is almost $1 less then brand Philadelphia on Walmart’s website.

The study’s creators note that the food and beverage industry performed exceptionally well among all generations, citing lower prices and consumers more aware of affordable options.

However, it should be noted that overall purchase overweight is down -1.37 percent year-over-year versus 0.44 in 2021 and 0.32 in 2020.
